Draw a frequency distribution graph. From the cumulative frequency distribution graph,
suggest the design speed of the road and the suitable speed limit at Persiaran Idaman.
Calculate mean speed and determine median and modal speed from the graph. (10 marks)

QUESTION 7
Table 2 below shows the data of traffic volume conducted from 5.00 to 6.00 p.m at 2.5 km on
suburban arterial. Compute the peak hour factor along the road during 15-min period.

2a) Traffic volume syudy was conducted over period of one hour at the roundabout of Bukit
Tengah, Seberang Perai. Traffic flow for one of the approaches heading towards the
roundabout is 2050 pcu/hr. it was recorded that the traffic flow consists of 70% cars, 15%
motorcycles, 10% buses and 5% vans. From the conversation factor in table Q2(a), determine
the total vehicle per hour. (5 marks)

2c) Figure Q2(c) represent traffic flow relationship of North Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE)
during festive season. Qualitative and quantitative measures of traffic are represented by
capacity and LOS respectively. It divides the quality of traffic into six level ranging from Level
A to F. Analyze in detail the speed and volume of traffic flow condition in which the LOS
changes from Level A until F. (10 marks)

2a) A traffic survey was conducted ay Lebuhraya Pantai Timur on hourly, daily and yearly
basis to determine the traffic flow pattern. The data was collected from Monday to Sunday
within a week. Sketch neatly a typical daily traffic flow characteristic and explain the traffic flow
pattern. (5 marks)

2c) A spot speed study was conducted on Jengka Street in residential neighborhood for the
duration of an hour. Table Q2C shows the results on the spot speed data. Calculate arithmetic
mean, median and modal speed and standard deviation for the spot speed data set.

2a) Spot speed study is a study of the speed of traffic at one point or spot on a traffic way in
order to determine the enforceable speed limits and estimate the speed distribution of the
traffic stream. Outline FIVE (5) factors that affecting spot speed studies. (5 marks)

2c) Table Q2(c) shows the raw data results of an observation made over a period of 1 hour
on a the straight secondary road of Jalan Masai Lama using radar speed meter.
