Motivational Activity:
Let’s warm up!
Teacher says:
Yesterday, we discussed about the potential sources of information and those are Library, Indigenous Media,
and Internet. Today, I will ask 5 person to identify which information sources ( i.e., Library, Indigenous
Media, Internet) do you prefer to use for the following topics? Briefly Support your answer.
1. The Cultural practices of the Lumads of Mindanao
2. Human expedition on Mars
3. Agricultural practices in Central Luzon
4. The global phenomenon on Korean pop
5. Recent events in the last decade that changed the world.

POSSIBLE ANSWERS:
1. I prefer Indigenous media rather than the internet, because not all indigenous knowledge especially the
Cultural practices of Lumads in Mindanao are uploaded on the internet. More information can be
obtained using Indigenous media regarding with this topic.
2. I prefer the use of internet rather than books because this topic is a general information and most of it
were uploaded on the internet. Nowadays, there are a lot more websites that cover topics about sciences,
and internet are much more updated rather than books because books takes time to publish. You can also
watch more videos about exploration on Mars which does not limit our self from imaginations and static
pictures.
3. I prefer internet over indigenous media it is because Central Luzon is a far place here in Mindanao. It is
more expensive if I use direct observation or ask the locals of Central Luzon about their Agricultural
practices because there is a need to spend for a fare ticket and accommodations.

4. I prefer Internet because I can just create a survey about this topic and upload it online and everyone
around the cyberspace can access it and answer it. In that way I can reach wider audience and wider
response with regards to this topic.

5. I prefer books rather than the internet because books are more reliable rather than the internet. Books
are reviewed many times by the editors and publishers to make sure that the information is all fact and
correct.

B. Lesson Presentation

Possible Answer: Internet, newspaper, television, library, gatherings and etc.

Possible Answer: Comparing potential sources of information is very important. Being an information
literate individual checking and evaluating information that we have access is one of our vital role.
How can we apply this in real life situations?
Possible Answer: Likened in our research subject if we are going to research we need to compare
information that we had access from the different sources we need to evaluate the content and compare it
to the other sources and so as to the other subject that we had.

Today, we will discuss and compare potential sources of information that we usually go through in
accessing information.

Did you know that INTERNET is a child of the COLD WAR?

1957 – USSR lunched SPUTNIK, the first manmade satellite.
UNITED STATES felt that they were falling too far behind the Soviet Union, on the late 1960’s they
were able to develop ARPANET (it was called ARPANET before it was called INTERNET). ARPANET
stands for Advanced Research Projects Agency Network. ARPANET was once created for military and
research purposes. They created ARPANET to ensure the safety of the people from nuclear bomb attacks.
They wanted to develop this kind of communication to ensure that even if their telephone system is
destroyed they can still be able to communicate. The US government use this as a weapon during the
COLD WAR. Not until on 1992, they allow mundane to use for commercial purposes and everyone can
access on the cyberspace.

Almost everything at your grasp is a source of information. But sources of information are not all the
same and not created equal. So as we strive to become more media and information literate individual, the
higher is the expectation to be judicious and more selective and critical of your information sources
because quality is everything with the vast information you can access.
