1 Introduction
The SS6100 Wellhead Data Recorder is designed to be a flexible and cost effective solution for
monitoring wellhead pressure and temperature. It uses individually replaceable pressure and
temperature sensors that allow for multiple configurations and simplify installation. It is
powered by a field replaceable Lithium battery pack, which can supply power for more than a
year. Setting parameters and retrieving data is easily accomplished with a PC and a USB cable.

Smart Pressure and Temperature Stems

The SS6100 introduces "Smart Stem"
technology to simplify installation to a
wellhead and to significantly reduce
down time. Previous versions of the
wellhead recorder required the return of
the entire system to Spartek for
calibration. Now, a smart stem combines
the sensor with the electronics into a
single housing, which isolates sensor
calibration to the stem alone. As a result,
down time is significantly reduced to
minutes instead of weeks because smart
stems can easily be replaced. See Replacing Pressure and Temperature Stems on page 18 for
details regarding stem replacement.
An assortment of smart pressure stems has
been designed for use in sweet or sour (H2S)
wells at ratings of 750 through 15,000psi.
They utilize Sapphire or Quartz transducers
for reliable pressure measurements.
Smart temperature stems work together with a
3" or 6" RTD probe. Probe cables are ten
meters long, but can be custom ordered to any
length up to thirty meters.
For a list of available smart stems and part
numbers, see Replacement Parts and Materials
on page 32.
A typical configuration of the SS6100 using two pressure stems and one temperature stem is
shown above. The pressure stems are connected to the left and bottom of the data recorder and
are then connected to the wellhead through HIP HF6 adapters. The temperature stem is
connected to the right of the data recorder and then connected with a cable to a Resistance
Temperature Detection (RTD) probe. Temperature probes are not rated for high-pressure and
require a thermowell or similar pressure isolation device installed in the wellhead.
For installation and removal instructions, see Wellhead Installation and Removal on page 26.

6 SS6100 Wellhead Data Recorder

5-Apr-11
Intelligent Battery Monitoring
The SS6100 also introduces "Intelligent Battery
Monitoring" technology, which extends survey
lengths and prevents data loss. Like the smart stems,
the field replaceable battery packs are combined with
electronics that keeps track of battery usage and
charge cycles. This information is communicated to
both the data recorder and the battery charger.
The data recorder actively retrieves this information
to calculate and determine the available battery life.
These calculations prevent data loss and facilitate
long duration surveys. A fully charged intelligent
battery can provide power to the data recorder and
the smart stems for more than a year.

The battery charger also uses this

information to determine the usability of
the battery and will indicate when the
battery is no longer reliable.
For information regarding the use of the
rechargeable Lithium battery pack with
the data recorder and battery charger, see
Charging and Replacing Battery Packs on
page 8.
To locate the part number for a
replacement battery, see Replacement
Parts and Materials on page 32.

Easy Configuration and Data Recovery

A computer running Spartek SparGauge software
and a standard USB cable is all that is required to
communicate with the SS6100. Setting survey
parameters and retrieving data is easily
accomplished through a high speed USB 2.0
connection. See SparGauge help for details
regarding available configuration settings and data
recovery.
See Connecting to a PC on page 14.
