SIMATIC

Hotfix 5 (K5.6.2.5) for STEP 7 V5.6 SP2 Programming software for SIMATIC
S7 / M7 / C7

Security information
Siemens provides products and solutions with industrial security functions that support the secure
operation of plants, systems, machines and networks.
In order to protect plants, systems, machines and networks against cyber threats, it is necessary
to implement - and continuously maintain - a holistic, state-of-the-art industrial security concept.
Siemens’ products and solutions constitute one element of such a concept.
Customers are responsible for preventing unauthorized access to their plants, systems, machines
and networks. Such systems, machines and components should only be connected to an
enterprise network or the internet if and to the extent such a connection is necessary and only
when appropriate security measures (e.g. firewalls and/or network segmentation) are in place.
For additional information on industrial security measures that may be implemented, please visit

https://www.siemens.com/industrialsecurity.

Siemens’ products and solutions undergo continuous development to make them more secure.
Siemens strongly recommends that product updates are applied as soon as they are available
and that the latest product versions are used. Use of product versions that are no longer
supported, and failure to apply the latest updates may increase customer’s exposure to cyber
threats.

Installation Notes
These installation notes contain important information that you need for the Hotfix installation.
Please read these notes before the installation.

1 Contents of the Consignment

This package comprises:

Hotfix 5 (K5.6.2.5) for the software package STEP 7 V5.6 SP2 (DVD version order number:
6ES7 811-4CC08-...)

2 Hardware Requirements

No changes compared with STEP 7 V5.6 SP2.

3 Software Requirements

STEP 7 V5.6 SP2

4 Installation

4.1 Installation of Hotfix 5 for STEP 7 V5.6 SP2

Prerequisite for the installation of this Hotfix is an existing installation of STEP 7 V5.6 SP2.
Due to the fact that your PLC/PC must be restarted after the installation in order to completely enter
all system variables, please close all applications (STEP 7, MS Word etc..) before starting the setup.

Start the file "*.exe" of Hotfix 5 for STEP 7 V5.6 SP2. The files will then be copied to the PLC/PC
and entries will be made in MS Windows files. Operating instructions will be given to you during
setup. The drive onto which you install Hotfix 5 for STEP 7 V5.6 SP2 will be determined by the
installed STEP 7 version.

Important notes:
 To ensure uninterrupted installation, you must always use the latest Microsoft Security Patches.
 The use of some virus scanners (e.g. Trend Micro, Symantec, McAfee) can result in an
incomplete installation of STEP 7. It is recommended to disable them for the duration of the installation. If
further problems arise, please contact the SIMATIC Customer Support.

Usage (Release Notes)

These notes supersede information contained in the manuals and the online help.

Security Recommendation
Security considerations for the shared program data folders in STEP 7: EXAMPLES, S7DATA,
S7LIBS
If a system, with STEP 7 installed, is shared with non-Automation users, the manipulation of
shared STEP 7 program data can be restricted to "Administrators" and "Siemens TIA Engineer"
group members only. This can be done by properly setting the access control lists (ACLs) for
each of the mentioned folders in %ProgramData%\STEP7\ :
 deactivate the inheritance of access rights from
%ProgramData%\Siemens\Step7\EXAMPLES
%ProgramData%\Siemens\Step7\S7DATA
%ProgramData%\Siemens\Step7\S7LIBS
and delete any inherited access rights
 add full access rights for SYSTEM, "Administrators" and "Siemens TIA Engineers"

McAfee Application Control

Do not use the update mode of McAfee Application Control while working with STEP 7 projects. If
you do use this mode, check the McAfee Whitelist and remove all STEP 7 project files before
exiting the update mode.

1 Innovations and Changes Compared to Earlier Versions

1.1 What has Changed Compared to Version STEP 7 V5.6 SP2?

HW Config
 Adding connections via command interface has been improved.
 The configuration of Safety modules via GSD has been improved.
 It is now once again possible to configure I devices in shared mode.
 Restricted use of scripts in the STEP 7 command interface on Windows 10
Due to thread synchronization problems when automatically saving STEP 7 user data, Visual Basic script
applications can experience sporadic crashes (possibly with data loss). Therefore, the command interface
is currently only partially suitable for such applications. Unpredictable errors can occur, especially with
nested loop operations. It is highly recommended that you avoid such use cases and use Visual Basic
scripts only with care and caution.
 As of this Hotfix: When uploading certain device configurations, the IP address was corrupted.
This has now been corrected.

Programming LAD/STL/FBD blocks

 The function "Check and Update Accesses" has been improved.
