Guidelines for MCS Projects

Objective : Management control systems facilitate strategy implementation and lead to


successful performance in today’s competitive environment. There is an increasing emphasis on
corporate controls leading to increased accountability and value creation. The objective of this
project is to undertake an indepth study of how Management Control Systems are designed,
developed and implemented to support the company’s strategy.

More specifically,
➢ To study the various Management Control Systems designed and implemented in a company.
➢ To categories the various Management Control Systems in terms of their Sub-systems.
➢ To review the existing control systems and identify the shortcomings and suggest new control
systems.

Methodology: Annual Reports are a rich source of financial information and non-financial information of
the company. In addition to Annual Reports, students can gather information about the various
management control systems from the company’s websites, News Articles or other reliable sources such
as technical magazines etc.
Steps required

1. Identify the various strategies of the Company

2. Identifying the various Control Systems designed by the company under the five Sub-systems of
MCS.
3. Identify how corporate culture is designed to ensure successful implementation of corporate
strategy
4. Identify how the organisation structure of the company is designed to ensure successful
implementation of corporate strategy. Trace the Organizational structure and describe
certain responsibility centers of the Company, as a subsystem of MCS.
5. Human Resource deployment and compensation designed (policies, procedures, guidelines)- –
specific to company
6. Identify the various specific Financial Control systems that are designed to ensure successful
implementation
7. Identify how the Performance measurement systems are designed for management of Human
Resources in the organisation.
8. Identify the Risk Management Systems designed to mitigate the risk faced by the corporate in
strategy implementation.
9. Assessing the sufficiency of the systems (using benchmark firms or competitors’ systems)
10. Identifying the strengths and weakness in the various Control Systems.
11. Assess if the corporate control systems are designed to suit the Volatile, Uncertain and Dynamic
environment.
The project will ensure continuous upgrading of knowledge and enhancement skill in sync with the flow
of the concepts and towards end result in a holistic understanding of control systems of Management.

The project is a group assignment and requires the participation and contribution of all the
members in a group. There is no presentation. Only submission of project report at the end of
20th session.

PROJECT EVALUATION:

1. Soft Copy of the Project Report should be submitted by 5TH January, 2022 by 5.00 pm
2. The Project Report carries 20 marks with a weightage of 10% .
3. Late submissions will not consider.
4. All the members of the group should work on the project in harmony.
5. Where a student does not involve and contribute to the project, the Group may take a
decision and not include (mention) the name of such student on the Report.
6. All the projects will be scrutinized for copying and plagiarism. In case of any doubt, only
50% of marks will be awarded.
