Assignment Unit 4 Photogrammetric Surveying
Unit 4
Photogrammetric Surveying
1. What do you understand by the term aerial photography? Also write a short note on the
factors that influence aerial photography.
2. Elaborate the two major uses of aerial photograph.
3. Explain what is relief displacement and how is it calculated? The distance from the
principal point to an image on photograph is 6.44 cm and the elevation of the object over
the datum is 250 m. What is the relief displacement of the point if datum scale is 1:10000
and focal length is 20 cm?
4. Describe aerial camera with the help of its neat sketch.
5. Differentiate between angle of tilt and angle of swing.
6. A tower AB is 40 m high, and the elevation of its bottom B is 800 m above MSL. The
distance of the image of the tower on a vertical photograph, taken at a flight altitude of
1800 m above MSL is 8.42 cm. Compute the displacement of the image of the top of the
tower with respect to the image of its bottom.
7. Derive parallax equations for determining elevation and ground coordinates of a point.
8. What is Photogrammetry?
9. An image of a hill top is 87.5 mm from the centre of a photograph. The elevation of the
hill is 665 m and the flight altitude is 4660 from the same datum. How much is the image
displaced due to elevation of the hill?
10. The following data is given for the flight planning:
i. Format = 18*18cm
ii. Focal Length = 21 cm
iii. Scale : 12,000
iv. Longitudinal Overlap = 60%
v. Lateral overlap = 30%
vi. East-West Terrain Length = 450 km
vii. North-South terrain width = 360 km
viii. Flight Direction – East to West
ix. Ground Speed of Aircraft =285 km/hr
Calculate the following:
1. Elevation of the Aircraft
2. Exposure Interval
3. Number of Photographs
