Mondays
Students read the
passage and circle
the words with that
week’s targeted
skill. Make it more
fun by having the
kids highlight the
words!
Tuesdays
Students write 4 words that either
RHYME with a word using the targeted
skill OR write 4 words that have that
targeted skill in it.
Afterwards, they practice using their
spelling skills to write those 4 words in
ABC order.

Wednesdays
Students read 8
words. 4 words are
real words and 4
words are nonsense
words.
Assess students’
comprehension of
the words by having
the students sort
the words into 2
categories (real or
nonsense).
Thursdays
Students use the 4 real words from
Wednesday and use them in complete
sentences. This is great for helping your
students use word families and spelling
rules in real world situations.
