• Its evolution into a trade-friendly financial hub,
superb infrastructure, and stable, progressive

of the factors that make it attractive

Geographic Location

• Singapore is a beautiful, tropical island


off the southern tip of the Malay
Peninsula in Southeast Asia. Singapore
is a city, a country, and a state all in
one
• It covers roughly 275 square miles,
making it slightly smaller than Rhode
Island
• Singapore is renowned as a Garden
City since about half of the island is
covered with greenery.

Natural hazards and
environmental issues
• Though natural catastrophes such as earthquakes,
typhoons, and volcanic eruptions are rare in Singapore
• The emergency services face obstacles in avoiding and
managing man-made disasters in a densely populated
area with numerous high-rise buildings and hazardous
material (HazMat) companies
• Because Singapore is surrounded by sea, the only
natural calamity that might occur is a
Tsunami/Tropical Storm
• Industrial pollution, limited freshwater resources, and
seasonal smoke and haze from Indonesian forest fires
are all major environmental concerns in Singapore

Climate

• Singapore is close to the equator and enjoys a tropical


climate all year, with plenty of rain, high and
consistent temperatures, and high humidity.
• Many of its climate variables, such as temperature and
relative humidity, do not differ significantly from
month to month
• Seasons do not exist in Singapore in the sense that
visitors from temperate countries understand them
• A nominal dry season runs from March to August
(with temperatures peaking in April) and a wet season
runs from September to February

Corruption

Singapore has a reputation for being one of the least


corrupt countries in the planet. According to a
Transparency International poll, the vast majority of
Singaporeans had never heard of incidents of public
officials or organisations being corrupted through the
media. Singapore is the world's fourth least corrupt
country and Asia's most transparent country as of 2020.

Economy

Singapore is the freest economy in the 2021 Index, with an


economic freedom score of 89.7. Its overall score has
improved by 0.3 point, owing mostly to a higher score for
government spending. Singapore is placed first in the
Asia–Pacific area out of 40 countries, and its overall score
is significantly above the regional and global averages.
Singapore's economy is dominated by services, although it
also produces electronics and chemicals and operates one
of the world's largest ports. Integrated circuits, refined
petroleum, and computers are all major exports.

Housing, transportation, and health-care subsidies are all


subsidised by the government, which also influences other
pricing through regulation and state-owned corporations,
and has grant programmes to promote high-growth local
businesses develop, grow, and internationalise. Although
the government retains control of the financial sector, it
has been slowly opening the domestic market to foreign
institutions. Over the last year, no restrictions have been
imposed on the industry. The GDP growth rate was -5.4%
in 2020 and the gross national income was 491.7 billion
PPP dollars. More than 75% of the population uses the
internet. Singapore's main trading partners include China,
the United States, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Japan.

Economy (3)

Available farm land, the country's gorgeous environment,


and fish are among Singapore's most valuable natural
resources. The unemployment rate among residents is now
3.5 percent, while the unemployment rate among citizens
is 3.7 percent. In September 2021, the resident long-term
unemployment rate grew to 1.2 percent, up from 0.9
percent in June. The central bank reaffirmed its prediction
for headline inflation of 1.5–2.5 percent in 2022, with core
inflation rising to 1-2 percent. Singapore does not have a
minimum wage, and workers are not required to be paid a
minimum wage. Pay rates must be negotiated directly with
the employer through collective bargaining or other ways.
