BACHELOR OF ELEMENTARY EDUCATION

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The BEEd is an undergraduate teacher education degree program designed to prepare individuals intending to teach
in the elementary level. The BEEd degree program aims to develop highly motivated and competent teachers
specializing in the content and pedagogy for elementary education.

PROGRAM VISION STATEMENT

The Teacher Education Program of Initao College envisages to produce well-rounded globally and technologically
competent educators who embody the ICian values and ideals to inspire and nurture children to become more
confident and productive builders of a peace-loving and sustainable community.

Educ 1: The Child and Adolescent Learners and The Learning Principles

Course Description
This course focuses on child and adolescent development with emphasis on current research and theory on
biological, linguistic, cognitive, social and emotional dimensions of development. Further, this includes factors that
affect the progress of development of the learners and shall include appropriate pedagogical principles applicable for
each developmental level.

Course Objectives
This course specifically aims to:
• Make use of collaborative, interactive and “hands-on-minds-on” metacognitive activities.

Through the above activities also serve as advocacy for current trends in education such as reflective
education, multiple intelligences and multicultural education, interactive and brain-based teaching, constructivist
teaching-learning and authentic assessment.

Course Outcomes
1. Get acquainted with human development as a process, the developmental tasks that come along with each
developmental stage and relevant issues that are raised about human development.
2. Prepare themselves adequately for their future roles as teachers, guidance workers and as parents.
