Do you agree that the Philippines is a collectivist society?

Give at least two (2)

concrete examples that would illustrate and support your argument.

I do agree that the Philippines is a collectivist society. One of the example that I can

give is the law. The Philippines has it law not only for the country itself but also for the

citizens. One of the law wherein, people has a right is the right to freedom of speech.

Wherein, it allows individuals to express themselves without government interference or

regulation. We can see here that; the Philippines allows its citizens to voice out

themselves and let them be heard. This is one of the best example of being a collectivist

as it does not only focus for one’s good but for the sake of many people.

Another example is when there’s a calamity that happened in a specific place here in

the Philippines, we can see that Filipinos helps each other to rise again. We can see

that, even if almost every Filipinos encountered difficulties in their lives, they do not

forget to help their fellow citizens. This is a good example also as a collectivist
community for the reason that, it shows concern and care for other people. Filipinos do

not only seek good things for themselves, but they also make sure that they will be able

to extend their help for their fellows.

How does our cultural orientation shape/impact our idea of self, especially as a
Filipino? Give at least two (2) concrete examples that would illustrate and support
your opinion.

The two examples that I would share that will support my opinion on how does our

cultural orientation shape/impact our idea of self are the following: The first one is the

cultures and the second one is the traditions where a person lived. Both of these can

have an effect on our idea of self especially as a Filipino. In a way that, with these we

be able to

identify where
we really belong. There are diverse culture all over the worlds, and as a person, these

differences that we have from one another makes us unique. Knowing and

acknowledging those differences is great because we can avoid or prevent conflicts.

And with those, we can share and exchange knowledge and information with one

another. And that is how we learn to be open on diversity. It shapes us to become an

open-minded person and help us as an individual to accept what we are as a person

and also accept other people indifferences.
