This document provides the framework and instructions for Part 1-4 of an IELTS Speaking test. In Part 1, the examiner asks introductory questions to get to know the candidates. Guided tours
Doing exercise
Interlocutor: In this part of the test, I’m going to give each of you two
photographs. I’d like you to talk about your photographs on
your own for about a minute, and also to answer a question
about your partner’s photographs.
(Candidate A), it’s your turn first. Here are your photographs.
They show people going on different guided tours.
Indicate the pictures on page C1 to the candidates.
I’d like you to compare the photographs, and say what you
think the people are enjoying about these guided tours.

Parts 3 and 4  8 minutes (11 minutes for groups of three)

Part 3
Keeping up to date
Interlocutor: Now, I’d like you to talk about something together for about
two minutes (3 minutes for groups of three).
Many people say that it’s important to keep up to date with all
the changes in the world. Here are some things in the world that
often change to think about and a question for you to discuss.
First you have some time to look at the task.
Indicate the text on page C3 to the candidates. Allow 15
seconds.
Now, talk to each other about which two things you think it’s
most important to keep up to date with.
Candidates: [2 minutes (3 minutes for groups of three).]
Interlocutor: Thank you. Now you have about a minute to decide what you
think is the biggest advantage of keeping up to date with all the
changes in the world.
Candidates: [1 minute (for pairs and groups of three).]
Interlocutor: Thank you.

Part 4
Interlocutor: Use the following questions, in order, as appropriate:
