1.1 General
ABC-F (Alcatel Business Communication Features) protocol is a proprietary protocol
integrating:
- QSIG GF: allows any type of incoming frame to be managed (QSIG basic call + additional
services) and any non-supported additional services to be disregarded. The call can then
be set up. QSIG GF allows transparent signaling exchange via a transit PCX/PBX,
- Alcatel-specific additional services. The number of services varies depending on
ABC-Fx level.

1.2 ABC-Fx level

Several levels of ABC-F protocol are offered:
- ABC-F0,
- ABC-F1,
- ABC-F2.
There is full upward compatibility. ABC-F1 is based on ABC-F0, with additional services
added. In the same way, ABC-F2 is based on ABC-F1 with additional services.
- ABC-F1 is implemented on the following Alcatel PCXs: 4300 L, 4600,
- ABC-F2 is implemented on the following Alcatel PCXs: 4300 S/M,
- ABC-F2 is implemented on the OmniPCX Enterprise and OmniPCX 4400.

Figure 1.1: ABC-Fx and QSIG exchange protocols

Using QSIG-GF transparency on an ABC network
QSIG-GF: allows transparent transit of ABC-F services across nodes that do not have the
same service level.
The transit node must integrate QSIG GF protocol to offer transparency to ABC-F services.
However, this node does not necessarily integrate an ABC-F type level of service.

Figure 1.2: ABC network based on QSIG transparency

The example shows two nodes, A and B, communicating in ABC-F2 via a QSIG GF transit

node. This transit node may have an ABC-F0 or ABC-F1 level of service or even be a
non-Alcatel PBX.

1.3 Determining exchange protocol between two nodes

Exchange between a QSIG GF PCX/PBX and ABC PBX
Dialog between two PBXs/PCXs with different levels of protocol is carried out using the lowest
level protocol.
The PCX can determine which protocol (ABC or QSIG GF) to use for a given call in a mixed
(combined) ABC/QSIG GF network. For example:
- calling/called party number analysis according to data stored in the network configuration,
- use of protocol information: for each call, the originating PCX applies ABC protocol unless
it receives information from the destination PCX/PBX indicating that this protocol is not
supported.
Exchanges between ABC PCXs with different ABC-F levels
An ABC-F PCX always transmits the same type of signaling frame, whatever the ABC-F level
of the other machine. Indeed, the PCX does not know the level of the other machine. The
destination machine interprets the frame according to its own signaling level. If interpretation
can be performed, the operation requested is accepted, otherwise it is refused.

Figure 1.3: Heterogeneous ABC network based on QSIG GF transparency

Example:
- A always transmits ABC-F2 signaling frames. Service level depends on the level of the other
machine.
- A and C exchange in ABC -F1 (C only interprets ABC-F1 level frames).
- A and B exchange in ABC -F2 (using the GF QSIG transparency of node C).

1.4 Routing
A heterogeneous ABC-F network is composed of OmniPCX Enterprises and/or OmniPCX
4400s linked by private links to other PCXs (4300 L, 4300 S/M, 4600, etc.) with ABC-Fx
network protocol. Heterogeneous nodes are linked by trunk groups. The link is accessed with
a routing prefix when a network of subnets is used.

1.5 Operation on an ABC-F network

2

2.1 General
The ABC-F trunk group allows a node integrating ABC-Fx network protocol (4300 S/M/L or
4600 type PCX) to be connected. The private network thus formed is a heterogeneous ABC
network. This link is not considered to be a logical link by the router, but is assimilated to a
trunk group.
The dialing plan is installed using a network of subnets.
Each TS of the ABC-F trunk group can be configured as voice or data (no compression
allowed) quality.

2.2 Declaring the T0/T1/T2 private link

Depending on network topology, there are two possible cases to be taken into account when
declaring a T0/T1/T2 private link:
- the T0/T1/T2 private link is directly connected to the node
- the T0/T1/T2 private link is not connected to the node and is accessed via network logical
links.
One end of the link must be declared as network mode, the other as user mode.

2.2.1 T0/T1/T2 ABC-F1 link directly connected to the PCX node

#' 2-1
Chapter 2
(& %&
#'

Declaring the T0/T1/T2 link consists in:

- declaring the board supporting the T0/T1/T2 private link (see module Heterogeneous
network - Configuration procedure ),
- Declaring the T0/T1/T2 private link,
- Declaring trunks (B channels of the T0/T1/T2 link) (see module Heterogeneous network -
Configuration procedure ),
- Declaring trunk group seize prefix (see module Heterogeneous network - Configuration
procedure ).
Declaring the T0/T1/T2 private trunk group
Create a T0/T2 trunk group (according to requirements) as indicated in module Heterogeneous
network - Configuration procedure . In the case of a private trunk group, the following global
attributes must be set:
Object name: Trunk Groups
Attributes:
Private Trunk Group : Do not validate. A subscriber takes a public trunk
located on another Alcatel ABC_Fx node via an
ABC_F trunk group. Declaring this ABC_F trunk
group as a public trunk group on the OmniPCX
Enterprise enables charging to be sent to the
OmniPCX Enterprise subscriber set.
Q931 Signal variant : ABC-F variant.

Complete the declaration of the trunk group.

Object name: Trunk Groups > Trunk Group
Attributes:
Entity Number : Indicate the owner entity of the trunk group.
Trunk COS ID : 18 (predefined COS for T0/T1/T2 ABC
accesses). All the trunks in the trunk group will
have this COS.
B Channel Choice : One end of the ABC-F1 link must be declared in
network mode (true), the other in user mode
(False).

These parameters are only to be declared on the local node.

Check that the ISDN access has been configured correctly (see module Heterogeneous
network - Configuration procedure )
Attribute:
Network Mode : This parameter specifies the level 2 operating mode
(network mode, user mode). One end of the link must
be set to user mode (item disabled), the other to
network mode (item enabled).

2.2.2 T0/T1/T2 ABC-F1 link not directly connected to the PCX node

2-2 ! "#

(& %&
#'

(& %&
#'

When a T0/T1/T2 private link is not directly connected to node A and users of this node may
take the trunk group, the trunk group must be declared on node A.
Create a T0/T1/T2 trunk group (according to requirements) as indicated in module
Heterogeneous network - Configuration procedure The following global attributes must be set
as follows:
Declaring the T0/T1/T2 trunk group
Object name: Trunk Groups
Attributes:
Trunk Group ID : This number (0 to 127) is specified at trunk group
creation.
Trunk Group Type : T0/T1/T2.
Trunk Group Name : Name of the host public central switchboard for public
trunk groups.
Q931 Signal variant : ABC-F variant.
Node No. : Number of the node on the private network to which
the T0/T1/T2 link is physically connected.

The other parameters do not need to be configured.

2.3 Numbering plan

The ABC-F2 homogeneous network is declared as subnet 1, the ABC-F1 node is declared as
subnet 2. The ABC private link interconnects two subnets (see module Network of Enterprise
sub-networks - Overview ). The routing and network prefixes to subscribers of the ABC-F1
node are then declared on the nodes of the homogeneous subnet (subnet 1).

Number : Enter prefix number (8 characters max. 0 to 9)

corresponding to a range of directory numbers on the
destination node. The prefix is identical to the first
common digits of this range of numbers.
Prefix Meaning : Select: Routing No.
Network No. : 2.
ABC-F trunk group/Node No. : Declaring the ABC-F trunk group.
Number of digits : Enter the maximum number of digits used for dialing (8
digits maximum).

dialing plan.

connected.
Type : Set.
