“Time Travel” Mise en Scene Semester Project

Individually, or in a group, create a 30 second to 1 minute scene that clearly
demonstrates the primary elements of Mise en Scene. Your scene must be clearly
set in an era, time period, genre that is at least 35 years in the past, 35 years
in the future from today, or an imagined world. The final project will also be
assessed for evidence (not forced) of attention paid to set design/location,
décor, props, costuming, make up, lighting, acting/blocking, and
space/cinematography.

Requirements
• Each member of the project group must select a primary role for the
production from these 4 roles: Screenwriter, Director, Cinematographer, or
Editor. Ideally, you should choose a role you have yet to experience or that
you know you plan to include in your film portfolio.
• You can only use original music, sound, and visuals for this film project.
Sound is NOT required for this project.
• You must not allow any copyrighted items to be visible on screen at all.
• Final project should be no less than 30 seconds and no more than 1 minute.
• Everything in the frame must contribute to the identification of the chosen
era and/or genre.
• Film should include a title page or title treatment.
• Anything you turn in to me should be a COPY and not your only version.
You will need to continue working while I am grading/reviewing.
• Each film group will need to establish and provide:
o Group norms, if working as a group, including how you plan to contact
each other and resolve conflict.
o A digital space for communicating and sharing documents – I recommend
Google Drive and SLACK, but choose tools you are comfortable with!
