Here are the following steps on how to prepare a client for a Scalp Manipulation:
Step 1: Cup the recipient’s chin in your left hand. Place your right hand at the base of the
skull and rub the scalp gently in a circular motion. Reverse the positions of your hands and
repeat.
Step 2: Place your fingertips on each side of the head. Press and slide upward, spreading
your fingers until they meet at the top of the head. Do this four times.
Step 3: Place your fingertips on each side of the head, as in Step 2. Slide upward, one inch
at a time, stopping and rotating the scalp in circular motions with your fingertips between
sliding. Repeat four times.
Step 4: Place the palms of your hands firmly above the ears. Move the scalp upward in
circular motions with the palms of your hands.
Step 5: Place the fingers of both hands along the forehead hairline. Massage around the
hairline in circular motions while moving the scalp toward the top of the head. Repeat,
working towards the top of the head in one-inch increments. Do this for the entire front scalp.
Step 6: Place your fingers on the sides of the head below the ears with your thumbs at the
back of the head. Make circular motions with your thumbs on the back of the head, moving
the scalp upward towards the crown. Repeat four times.
Place your fingers in the same position as in Step 6. Work your thumbs in circular motions,
moving the scalp from behind the ears toward the center of the back of the head. Do this
four times.

Types of Scalp and Hair Treatments are Hot Oil Treatment/hair Spa, Dandruff
Treatment, Oily Scalp Treatment and Treatment for Alopecia. Google revealed from a
research that a hot oil treatment soaks into split ends and smooth them down until you can
schedule an appointment for a trim. With weekly use, hot oil treatments can extend the
time between trips to the stylist for one or two weeks. The theory: Heat helps the oil
penetrate the hair shaft better, giving dry hair a quick infusion of moisture.

Alopecia
Steps for Hot Oil Treatment/hair Spa
This is the recent procedure of Bradley and Diegel Salon. Dirk Diegel, stylist and co-
owner of Bradley and Diegel salon in Boston share's with you the steps he takes while

Step 1. Clarify the hair of your client with a shampoo. Make sure the
hair is fully dry before you apply the treatment.

Step 2. Start from the bottom when you put the oil to the hair. Just
make sure your sections are small enough so that hair is deeply
saturated.
Step 3. Put a cap on to the client’s head and add a little heat for
about 350°F/175°C is a safe bet.
Step 4: After heating, use shampoo to get rid of the oil and massage
the hair.
Step 5. You can let it dry naturally or you can blow dry it (depending
on your client’s preference.
Dandruff Treatment
A doctor can often diagnose dandruff simply by
looking at your hair and scalp. The itching and flaking of
dandruff can almost always be controlled. For mild dandruff,
first try daily cleansing with a gentle shampoo to reduce oil
and skin cell build-up. If that doesn't help, try a medicated
dandruff shampoo. You may need to try more than one
shampoo to find the hair care routine that works for you.
And you'll likely need repeated or long-term treatment.

If you develop itching, stinging, redness or burning from any product, stop using it. If
you develop an allergic reaction — such as a rash, hives or difficulty breathing — seek
immediate medical attention.
Hair loss that happens alongside a noticeably oily scalp can result from: genetics,
aging, damage to hair follicles.
There’s plenty you can do at home or buy at your local drugstore to help treat an oily
scalp. Keep in mind evidence for these home remedies is largely anecdotal. Your results
may vary. These suggestions don’t replace conventional treatment therapies.
Fish oil
Limited data suggests that fish oil could be helpful to manage flare-ups of dandruff that
can contribute to oily scalp skin. It’s usually sold as an oral dietary supplement. Many people
use fish oil for its potential benefits for the immune system and heart.
Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera is another natural remedy for dandruff that’s backed by older research Trusted
Source. Its use may be derived from its potential to control inflammation that leads to flare-
ups.
Probiotics
Probiotics are thought to be a good way to decrease inflammation throughout the body,
which can help control dandruff flare-ups. There’s not a ton of evidence that probiotics are

specifically effective for an oily scalp, but there’s some Trusted Source. It’s worth talking to
your doctor about whether they may benefit you.
Tea tree oil
Tea tree oil is an antiseptic that can help control bacterial and fungal build-ups. These
buildups can lead to acne or flare-ups of some scalp skin conditions. Dilute tea tree oil with a
carrier oil, such as coconut or olive oil, and put a few drops on the affected area.
Apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is a well-loved anecdotal therapy, but it lacks sufficient evidence to
support routinely in skin disorders. Some say it’s an effective anti-inflammatory and can help
reduce the pH balance of your hair. Both of these capabilities may help reduce oil production
and stop flare-ups of skin conditions. However, apple cider vinegar may further irritate your
skin if you have eczema. If you decide to try apple cider vinegar, put a few drops of it on your
scalp after washing your hair. Leave it for a few minutes, then rinse well.
We have discussed in the previous of module the different types of alopecia right? As
conventional treatments for alopecia are extremely limited, studies that support natural
treatments for alopecia are even thinner on the ground. There are some people that
recommend rubbing onion or garlic juice, cooled green tea, almond oil, rosemary oil, honey,
or coconut milk into the scalp. While none of these are likely to cause harm, their
effectiveness is also not supported by research. Some people turn to alternative treatment
methods such as acupuncture and aromatherapy, although there is little, if any, evidence to
support these treatments.
