• TEACHER TIPS
See the Dog
• The cat does not like to dig or jump in water, but the dog would. As a
class, make a list of the differences between cats and dogs. Then make
a list of their similarities.

• Have each student write about which they would rather be, a cat or a
dog. Their writing should include reasons for their preference.

• Explore homonyms with your students. When the cat says “The dog
is sick today” and “I am sick of being a dog,” the word sick means two
different things even though it is spelled and sounds the same. With
your students, make a list of other words that are homonyms. Keep it
on the wall of the classroom and encourage students to add to it as
they discover new ones.
