Argumentative writing

Definition
Argumentative writing is a writing to convince (i.e.) to change the reader's mind
by appealing to logic and evidence.
When you argue you have to be logical and should provide evidence so as to
change a person's view towards some thing that you would like him/her to
accept.

Features of Argumentative writing

1) The issue must be arguable.

2) The writer should take a clear position and it should be stated in the thesis
statement.
3) The argument must be backed up by data - facts and statistical figures that
persuades readers.
4) Assume that your reader will disagree with you or be skeptical; so be
reasonable, professional and trustworthy.

While writing:
a) Anticipate objections - see/include/ state the view point of others. In
other words state what others believe/ say about the issue at hand.
b) Make Concessions - give in/admit that they are half right/ that they have
a valid concern.
If you ignore these two remember that you are antagonizing your readers and
insulting their intelligence.
