Conference Method
Methods of instruction vary with the subject matter of the course, the number in the class,
and the judgment and personality of the instructor. In conference method, the students and
faculty work closely together. Ideas, facts, methods of analysis, and interpretations are
exchanged, challenged, and defended by both students and faculty members, who jointly
share responsibility for the learning process.
For a conference class, a topic is previously given by instructor. On conference class day,
firstly instructor raises the topic in front of the class, discusses the topic and invites students
for their views. Students share their ideas, thinking and perceptions in front of the class.
Instructor and students develop the topic all together. Through this development, depth of
knowledge increases among the students. Before ending the conference class, whole class
come to common knowledge findings, resolutions and conclusions.
Various module courses are conducted as conferences, generally ranges between 10 and
25 students.
