Acknowledgement
I would like the express special thanks to my English teacher Miss Ashmini Prasad, this SBA
would not have been completed correctly if it wasn’t for all the assistance she offered. Her
guidance throughout the completion of my SBA made the SBA easier and more less complicated
to complete. I also want to thank her for providing examples/pointers based on the SBA and for
correcting any mistakes I have made on the way. I would also like to thank the members of my
group for cooperating and providing help for any complications I came across in the SBA, group
work really made the SBA come together faster and I came to know much more about our topic
because of them. And finally I would like to thank my family and friends for providing the
necessary resources and encouragement while I was writing up the SBA. Everyone helped in
different aspects of the SBA and I am thankful because my SBA would not have been completed
before the deadline if it wasn’t for the help they provided.

Plan of Investigation
The topic ‘Suicide’ was chosen. The researcher's sub-topic is "Causes of Suicide", which was
chosen because the researcher wants to raise awareness about factors that may cause suicide. As
an English student, the researcher will benefit from enhanced vocabulary, summary writing skills
and persuasive speaking skills. Vocabulary and summary writing skills will be used in writing
reflections and group report and persuasive speaking will be used for the oral presentation.
Information for the research will be gathered using an article from dotdash (a blog), a song and a

Reflection 1
The researcher is familiar with suicide but was unaware of some of the causes of suicide. In the
article, "Why Do People Commit Suicide?" by Nancy Schimelpfening (2021), the writer states
feeling like a burden and experiencing hopelessness are two main suicide factors along with
stress, illness and impulsivity. The researcher was saddened after learning the leading suicide
causes.
In the song, "Suicidal" By YNW Melly (2019), the singer sings about the reason he is feeling
suicidal with love being the main reason. This artifact made the researcher realize how a simple
problem can make an individual turn to suicide; this made the researcher very worried.
In the video, "What Leads to Suicide" By Psych2Go (2017), the youtuber explained that
depression, regrets and loss of control which lead to impulsivity are what contributes to suicide.
The researcher is deeply concerned because those factors occur on a daily basis.

Reflection 2
"Why Do People commit Suicide?" was an informative article. Statistics was the main technique
used: "In a survey of nearly 6,000 U.S. adults, nearly 22% of people who have been raped had
attempted suicide". Approximately 1,320 of 6000 victims attempted suicide. This shows that
The song, "Suicidal" was informative and entertaining. The main technique used was repetition.
The line "Your love is suicidal" was repeated throughout the song. This showed the researcher
that love was the main factor that caused the singer to feel suicidal.
The video, "What Leads to Suicide" was informative. A formal tone was used, "impulsively
breeds fear and anxiety which causes people to believe suicide is the only action they can
take…”. This serious and formal tone presents a solemn situation because many may turn to

Reflection 3
The researcher’s topic of investigation is suicide. The research on the sub-topic "causes of
suicide" widened the researcher’s knowledge on the causing factors of suicide, helping to
improve the social life of the research by equipping them with the relevant information to inform
others.
Working in a group had a major effect on the research, causing it to be much easier and resolving
challenges quickly. Group work was beneficial because members cooperated by sharing their
views on the topic which made each challenge of the research to be less difficult.
With the entire group making an effort to complete the research, members shared their
perspectives on the topic and helped in gathering information for the research. Group members
assisted in peer marking which helped each member of the group to improve their writing skills
and expand their vocabulary along with increasing their self-discipline while working as a group.
6
Plan of Oral Presentation
The researcher has chosen to write a speech based on the topic of Suicide for the oral
presentation. In preparation for the oral presentation sources such as google, YouTube, and
social media platforms were used in order to gather and combine information. A formal tone will
be used in the speech, this will help to professional deliver a message to the audience and capture
their attention.

Group Written Report
The researchers have chosen the topic Suicide to raise awareness because it is a prevalent issue
in society. Members of the group, came together, on a lunch break and chose different aspects of
the topic to investigate on such as the causes of suicide, the warning signs, the effects of suicide
and methods of prevention. The artifacts were easily obtained from an Anthology, YouTube, a
blog, an article and a brochure. Obtaining the following artifacts was simple because the sources
the artifacts were gathered from were easily accessible. A total of 12 artifacts were gathered from
which 3 artifacts were selected. The group came together and chose three artifacts that is most
relatable to the topic. Artifact No 1 is a poem By Heather Joy, “The consequences of Suicide”
“You could have given up.” The consequences of Suicide by Heather Joy were generally chosen
to acknowledge the consequences of suicide to the family of the suicide victim. From this
artefact, loss of a loved one, welcomes pain and anger that cannot be easily dealt with. This often
means that people bereaved by suicide feel stigmatized and isolated. Why do people Commit
Suicide By Nancy Schimepfening, is highlighting all the possible reasons why one may commit
suicide. The reasons that people attempt suicide are varied and complex, but they often involve
severe emotional or physical pain that a person finds unbearable. You could have given up by
S.C Lourie shows that one can see the good in every bad situation. If you have a positive
mindset, you can be lead in the right path and stay focused and motivated on choice of life.
