Antigone Scene 3

Enter TIG, bringing in drinks and glasses to ESME who is cleaning them at the bar.
They are both in barmaid’s uniform
TIG leans on the bar and speaks to ESME

TIG: Am I the only one that's noticed how many times we are supposed to pay for what our
parents did. You name it, we’ve had it. Now this?
ESME: Don’t start moaning now.
TIG: Nothing but glorified waitresses. Did you not see him?
ESME: Yeah I saw him.
TIG: Parading himself around like he runs things. Our own brothers' aren’t even cold yet.
ESME: You don’t have to keep saying it.
TIG: Just cover his face, what's wrong with that. (pause) Creo’s champagne?
ESME: What do you think?
TIG: I didn’t know you were so brave, Es?
ESME: No, I meant for them.
TIG: Of course you did. What was I thinking? NIce thought though, if only for a second.

TIG grabs the champagne bottle off ESME and begins to open it

ESME: (Protests) Tig!

TIG: Oh shush
ESME: Put it down. right now. I'm not joking!

TIG opens bottle without it flowing over

TIG: Pass two glasses over

ESME: Get them yourself.
TIG: Oh, don’t be so boring, Esme.

ESME passes TIG two champagne glasses

ESME: We shouldn’t be doing this

TIG: For Eto and Orrin

They clink their drinks

ESME: Peace be upon them. I miss them as well, you know.

TIG: I never said you didn’t.
ESME: Yes you did. In a way
TIG: I refuse to let you spoil my fun, Esme. Now drink. Oh, tuuuune! Listen to this tune! (TIG
jumps up onto the bar and begins dancing)
ESME: Get down, man.
TIG: Get up, man!
ESME: Tig!
TIG: You really are getting boring, Esme. I can’t shake it, man.
ESME: They’re dead, Tig.
TIG: So, you don’t care that one of our brothers gets treated like a soldier, the other like a
traitor?
Antigone Scene 3

ESME: Of course-
TIG: But you would rather serve drinks to the man who put our brother down?
ESME: Orrin put himself down. You can’t blame Creo for that.
TIG: I can blame him. Eto deserves a fair funeral. Him just has to lie there for the dogs, nuh
man! That ain’t right. It’s time, sis.
ESME: Time for what?
TIG: Cover our brother, ennit.
ESME: Leave it Tig.
TIG: I can’t leave it.
ESME: The police will come, let them take it.
TIG: What do you mean, it?
ESME: Wou’d go against Creo? Are you forgetting what happened to our dad? Got blind and
that? What about mum? Finding out her husband was also her son? No wonder she killed
herself-
TIG: Don’t say that! (Pang of guilt) Es, look-
ESME: No, you are not doing this, you can’t.
TIG: Watch me.
ESME: You’ll die!
TIG: If I die, I die.
ESME: What is it about this family that the gods seem to have it in for us, man?

TIG makes her way downstage right for her coat

TIG: I don’t give a rass neck about the gods. You think I’m afraid, Es? Cos you’ll be right.
(Exits)
ESME: Well go on then, do what you have to!
