TOPICS COVERED - Surface areas and volumes of cube, cuboid, cylinder, cone, sphere and hemisphere.

QUESTIONS -

1. The volume of a cube is 𝟑√𝟑𝒂 𝟑 cubic units; find its total surface area.

2. A semicircular sheet of metal of diameter 28 cm is bent to form a conical cup. Find slant height
of the cup.

3. A hemispherical tank has inner radius 2.8cm. Find its capacity in litres.

4. Diameter of the base of the cone is 10.5cm and its slant height is 10cm. find its curved surface
area.

5. Find the total surface area of hemisphere of radius 3.5 cm.

6. The floor of a rectangular hall has a perimeter 150 m. If the cost of painting the four walls at the
rate of ₹ 10 per m2 is ₹ 9000, find the height of the wall.

7. The dimensions of a cuboid are in the ratio 3:2:2 and the lateral surface area of the cuboid is
200 m2. The outer surface of the cuboid is painted at the rate of ₹ 10 per m2. Find the total cost
of painting the outer surface of the cuboid.

8. 30 circular plates each of radius 14cm and thickness 3cm are placed one above the other to
form a cylindrical solid. Find:

(a) The total surface area


(b) Volume of cylinder so formed.
9. A 4 cm edge cube is cut into small cubes each of edge 1 cm. calculate the total surface area of
small cubes. Also find the ratio of total surface area of large cube to that of the small cubes.

10. A square piece of paper of side 12 cm is rolled to form a cylinder .Find the curved surface area of
the cylinder.

11. If the radius and slant height of a cone are in the ratio 7:13 and its curved surface area is 286
𝒄𝒎𝟐, then find its radius.

12. What is the total surface area of hemispherical shell with radius r unit .

13. What is the maximum length of pencil that can be placed in a rectangular box of dimension 8 cm
x 6 cm x 5 cm?( hint: diagonal of cuboid is √(𝑙 2 + 𝑏 2 + ℎ2 )

14. If curved surface area of solid cylinder is two third of its total surface area, then find the ratio of
its height and radius.

15. If the cost of painting the four walls of a room at the rate of Rs 10 per 𝒎𝟐 is Rs 1500, find area of
its four walls.

16. If the curved surface area of a cylinder is 1760 𝒄𝒎𝟐 and its base radius is 14 cm. Find its height.

17. How many balls each of radius 2 cm can be made by melting a big ball whose radius is 8cm?

18. A cone, hemisphere and cylinder have same base radius and equal heights. Find the ratio of
their volumes.

19. Three cubes of melted with side 3 cm,4 cm and 5 cm are melted and recast into single cube.
Find TSA of the resulting cube.

20. The ratio of CSA and TSA of a right circular cylinder is 2:3 and total surface area is 14784 𝒄𝒎𝟐.
Find its volume.
