We are considering the duration of 10 years (2007 – 2016) for our analysis.

We have not considered Telangana since the majority of the data is missing.

b. Based on line charts showing time trends, which 2 states/UTs are improving the
most in the category?
The difference mentioned is the difference from the year of 2007 till 2016, but we have mentioned
only the first and last year in the table below.

1. Infant Mortality Rate

“Number of deaths per 1000 live births of children under the age of 1”.

Odisha and Jammu & Kashmir are improving the most as they have the highest 1st and 2nd difference
of IMR during the period of 2007 to 2016 and are showing constant decrease in number just as
mentioned in the above table.

2. CBR

Daman & Diu and Lakshadweep are improving the most as they have the highest 1st and 2nd difference
of CBR during the period of 2007 to 2016 and are showing continuous increase in number when
compared to other states and union territories which are showing decrease in number. Please refer
the above table for reference.

3. CDR

We have found Nagaland and Tripura as the most improving state/union territory because they have
the highest 1st and 2nd difference of CDR during the period of 2007 to 2016. Although there was an
increase in Death Rate for Nagaland from 3.0 (2015) to 4.5 (2016), also for Tripura from 4.7 (2014) to
5.2 (2015) and to 5.5 (2016), we have found this analysis on the basis of overall view from year 2007
to 2016. Please refer the above table for reference.

4. Institutional deliveries

We have found Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh as the most improving states as they have the
highest 1st and 2nd difference of Institutional deliveries during the period of 2005-06 to 2015-16. We
have not included the Union Territories into consideration as certain

5. Immunisation

We have found Punjab and Bihar as the most improving states as they have shown an increasing
trend

We have found Jammu & Kashmir and Odisha as the improving state/UT as they have been showing
increasing trend in both “At birth” and “At age 5-10 years”.

7. Sex Ratio at Birth

We have found Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir as the improving state/UT as they have shown the
significant difference between 2005-07 and 2013-15 when compared to all other States/UT.

8. Total Fertility Rate

We have found Kerala and Tamil Nadu as the improving states as all other states have shown
decrease in trend of -0.2 and above.

9. Health Infrastructure

We have considered only health centres for Line charts and based on that Rajasthan and Karnataka
are the improving states as they have significant improvement when compared to all other
states/UT

10. Maternal Mortality Rate

We have found Assam and Uttar Pradesh/ Uttarakhand as improving states as they have shown
significant decrease when compared to all other states/UT

2. Summary:
When comparing the averages of states/UT for each category Kerala is among the top 2 in 5 categories,
and Goa is among top 2 in 3 categories. Across all the categories it is Kerala which is the first and Goa
which is 2nd when we compare the averages.

During the period of 2007 to 2016, the states/UTs improving well in health across categories based on
our Line Charts are Jammu & Kashmir, and Odisha.

We have arrived at the Line Chart conclusion by considering the duration of last ten years and the
difference between the value of 2007 and the most recent value 2016. And the highest difference
value is considered as the best performer because more difference in the value means more
improvement in the trend.
