Past simple
A2 level

Content: Past simple is to talk about a completed action in a time before now; the action
can be from a recent past or a distant past. And it has the following structure:

Pronoun Verb (past)


I Irregular: Ate, had, went, thought, got up,
You woke up, ran, slept, did, came, said, made,
We built, rose, told, spoke, kept, understood,
They found etc.
He Regular: Worked, watched, played, created,
She jumped, loved, hoped, listened, laughed,
It accepted, changed, earned, failed, happened,
passed, etc.

Affirmative

* Irregular verbs change their structure when used in past tenses.

* Regular verbs just add –ed at the end of the word for past tenses.

Negative

Pronoun Negative Verb (present)


auxiliary (past)
I Irregular: Eat, have, go, think, get up,
You wake up, sleep, do, come, say, make,
We
Did not build, rise, tell, speak, keep,
They or understand, find, etc
He Regular: Work, watch, play, create,
