five (5) insights about the video about the changes brought about by global pandemic
in the field of research.

1. Due to the pandemic, the methods of research that we can use is now limited to
methods the are not face to face such as telephone interviews and online meetings.
2. The topics that we want to research will be hindered as well because though we
might have enough sources, we won’t be able to conduct the actual research itself
because of the lack of participants.
3. If you do actually continue to research in this time, there are a lot of health risks
not just for you but for your participants as well.
4. We should us this time to study or expand our knowledge about the topic or even
plan out what we should do to conduct this research.
5. We must know the differences of how we would conceptualize the world, since we
have the “new normal” we must adapt to that.

Summary
Write one sentence definition for each type of research.

Applied research – is used to provide solutions to problems in business, medicine,


and education, such as developing as new vaccine or developing new technology to
help students.
Basic research – is used to better understand and improve scientific theories and
even predict natural or other phenomena.
Correlational study – it seeks to find the relationship between two variables.
Descriptive research – as the name states, it is used to describe the how, what, when,
and where of a population, situation, or phenomena.
Ethnographic research – is a method where researchers observe and/or interact with
their participants in their real-life environment.
Experimental research – since it is called experimental research, it deals more on the
hypothesis and completing it in a controlled environment.
Exploratory research – it is used to investigate and understand an existing problem
more clearly.
Historical research – it deals with history, interpreting past events to determine the
cause and effect of it.
Phenomenology – its goal is to describe the nature of a natural phenomenon.
Action research – it is interactive, it balances problem solving actions to understand
the causes of certain thing so it an enable future predictions.
Assignment
Look up two research titles appropriate for each type. Send the output to the
teacher in MS Word format.
Applied research:
What is causing increased poverty in cities?
How to abolish hate crime
Basic research:
Which gender more likely to be diagnosed with depression?
Do stress levels influence how often students cheat?
Correlational study:
Are wealthy people less likely to be patient?
Are rich people more likely to be vegetarians?
Descriptive research:
Evaluating teacher’s attitudes about using technology in the classroom
What flavor palette do most people prefer?
Ethnographic research:
What do you enjoy about a product or service?
Will long-term drugs give side effects?
Experimental research:
Is multimedia effective?

As a Dominican, I learned to be __efficient and adaptable_____
_Being truthful, efficient, respectful, and adaptable can help. You need to
be truthful of course, because in conducting a research you need to be
truthful for to your participants and in your report. You need to be
efficient and adaptable so that when things don’t go your way, you can
easily adapt to different situations. And lastly, of course you need to be
respectful because everyone deserves it, it is basic human morals.
