Load Calculation On Building

The document calculates load calculations on a building. It determines loads on beams from exterior brick walls (12 kN/m), interior partition walls (6 kN/m), and parapet walls (5 kN/m). Loads on slabs are also calculated, including 1.4 kN/m2 for typical floors and 2.6 kN/m2 for the terrace floor due to additional waterproofing materials. Self-weight of structural elements will be calculated separately in the ETABS software.

LOAD CALCULATION ON BUILDING

1. LOADING ON BEAMS

A. WALL LOADS FOR TYPICAL FLOOR

a) For 230 mm thick brick walls (Exterior walls)

Density of normal bricks = 20 kN/m3

Brick load per meter height = 0.23 x 20 = 4.6 kN/m

Typical height of the floor = 3m

Depth of the beam considered = 0.6m

Net height of brick wall in one floor = 3m – 0.6m = 2.4m

Hence total brick loads per meter length = 4.6 x 2.4 = 11.04 kN/m

Total brick loads per meter length is taken = 12 kN/m ( extra load for plastering)

b) For 115 mm thick brick walls (Interior or Partition walls)

Density of normal bricks = 20 kN/m3

Brick load per meter height = 0.115 x 20 = 2.3 kN/m

Typical height of the floor = 3m

Depth of the beam considered = 0.6m

Net height of brick wall in one floor = 3m – 0.6m = 2.4m

Total brick loads per meter length = 2.3 x 2.4 = 5.52 kN/m

Total brick loads per meter length is taken = 6 kN/m ( extra load for plastering)
B. WALL LOADS FOR TERRACE ( PARAPET )
Density of normal bricks = 20 kN/m3

Height of the parapet wall taken = 1m

Thickness of wall = 230mm

Parapet wall load on the beams = 1 X 20 X 0.23 = 4.6 kN/m

Parapet wall load on the beams is taken = 5 kN/m ( extra load for plastering)

2. LOADING ON SLABS

A. FOR TYPICAL FLOORS

Density of flooring (marbles, tiles etc. ) = 24 kn/m3

Density of ceiling plaster = 20.4 kN/m3

Thickness of floor finishes assumed on the slab= 50mm

Floor finishes on the slab = 0.05 x 24 = 1.2 kN/m2

Thickness of Ceiling plaster on the slab= 6mm

Weight of Ceiling plaster on the slab = 0.006 x 20.4 = 0.12 kN/m2

Total weight of Floor finish load on the slab = 1.2 + 0.12 = 1.32 kN/m2

= 1.4 kN/m2 (Rounded value)

B. FOR TERRACE FLOOR ( INCLUDING PROVISION OF WATER PROOFING)

Brick coba is the water proofing material generally used on the roof of every building.

Density of brick coba = 20 kN/m3

Density of ceiling plaster = 20.4 kN/m3

Thickness of brick coba taken = 120 mm

Weight of Brick coba on the slab = 0.120 x 24 = 2.4 kN/m2

Weight of 6mm Ceiling plaster on the slab = 0.006 x 20.4 = 0.12 kN/m2

Total weight of floor finish load on the roof slab = 2.4 + 0.12 = 2.52 kN/m2

= 2.60 kN/m2 (Rounded value)

NOTE : The self-weight of the structural elements will be automatically calculated by ETABS
