Scope and Limitation

Due to these challenging times brought by the coronavirus pandemic, the new
learning modality was implemented for students in Siniloan Integrated National High
School (SINHS) - changing the usual formal education into a non-formal to alleviate the
spread of the said virus and to continue the current school year. SINHS follows the new
learning modality of modular distance learning as restrictions of physical contact
experiments are prohibited, therefore the researchers of the academic strands mainly
focuses on quantitative research with descriptive research design. The researchers first
identified the current issues of the community and came up with the factors affecting
Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Students capability on
modular distance learning.

To contribute to this research, the main subjects of the study are STEM Students
of the aforementioned secondary public institution – Siniloan Integrated National High
School. In addition to collecting the data, the researchers will use survey instrument to
validate amongst students which factors are affecting their learning in the non-formal
school setting. The sampling technique to put in effect is the non-probability quota
sampling technique, wherein a total of 100 students from the STEM strand will be
surveyed to identify which factor will greatly affect them. The reason for the quota
sampling technique is that not all students have had good access to internet
connectivity and although simple random technique will give a more accurate data, it is
hard to get everyone involved so a limit must be set, with the survey being conducted
online using Google Forms as the alternative medium to avoid physical contact within
the researchers and the participants. The Content Analysis will be employed to interpret
and analyse the data from the surveys. liket scale

Furthermore, the above-mentioned research mainly focuses on the STEM

Students of Siniloan Integrated National High School (SINHS) and the institution’s
implementation of the Modular Distance Learning. The outcome may vary from different
schools and different learning modalities, but the study does not provide conclusion
whether which modality will be better and also ways to improve student’s performance
towards modular distance learning.
Research title: NEW NORMAL: FACTORS AFFECTING STEM STUDENTS’
CAPABILITY ON MODULAR DISTANCE LEARNING IN SINILOAN
INTEGRATED NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

Why did you choose this topic: this topic is very relevant at this time
since the traditional face to face learning is force to halt because of the
pandemic. Modular distance learning is not a new learning modality,
actually some school are implementing this mode of learning but
because of the pandemic this become the new way of learning for a very
large scale. No further studies with regards to modular distance learning
and that is why we want is provide necessary information, data and
reference to contribute in the field of research. I think our study is very
relevant and timely as we are uncertain when will this pandemic will last,
when will traditional face to face will be back? Or can modular distance
learning can still be used with or without the pandemic. Identifiying the
factors which affects stem students studies is the main goal of this
research, it gives room for the educators to create better game plan to
make modular distance learning as effective and engaging as the
traditional one.

Who are the respondents: stem students of SINHS

How would we gather the data: google form, surveying online with likert
scale research instrument

Why likert scale: because likert scale would be the best option to assess
which factors would be most use in modular distance learning. Rating
the factors provided by the survey questionnaire will give accurate
information on how often those factors affects one student which would
vary depending on the respondents

Research design: quantitative- descriptive design

Why quantitative- descriptive design: since statistics will be employ

quantitative research is it’s category with descriptive design, the reason
for the descriptive design is to assess the population of stem students
of SINHS. The data aims to know the extent to which different factors
can be obtain from the respondents, therefore descriptive design would
be the most suited thus, descriptive design is the least “theoretical”
among other design.

Sapling technique: The sampling technique to put in effect is the non-probability

quota sampling technique, wherein a total of 100 students from the STEM strand will be
surveyed to identify which factor will greatly affect them.

Modular distance leraning- is a newly-introduced instructional method by the Department of

Education that features individualized materials such as self-learning modules in print or digital
format/electronic copy for students’ learning uses and educational purposes as an alternative to the
traditional face-to-face learning to avoid close contact and to mitigate the spread of the virus
