How to Enable the Adobe® PDF Full Text Search for


ControlST* Documentation
ControlST V04.07 includes the latest Adobe® Reader® to provide full text search within all .pdf files. Adobe Reader XI and
the Windows® indexing service perform fast, accurate searches from within specified folders containing multiple .pdf files.

This document provides the following procedures:

• Install Adobe Reader 11.0 or later (perform one time only)


• Specify the ControlST installation directory for search indexing
• Rebuild the Windows 7 search index
• Perform a search

Note For a 64-bit computer, you must also run the PDFFilter 64Setup.msi located in the AdobeReader folder shown below.

Note If you have already installed the ControlST software suite, you need to rebuild the index (PDF Filter 64Setup must be
installed first). Refer to the procedure To rebuild the Windows 7 Index.

Enable Text Search


Ø To install Adobe Reader: from the ControlST DVD and AdobeReader folder, run the AdbeRdr11001_en_US.exe
file. For a 64-bit computer, you must also run the PDFFilter 64Setup.msi.

Ø To specify the ControlST installation directory for search indexing

Note You must restart the computer after performing this procedure.

1. From Windows Explorer Start menu, open Control Panel.

In the Search field, enter the term Search.

Click Indexing Options .

Click Modify .

The Indexed Locations


dialog box displays.

Click for Windows Help and Support .

Expand Windows 7
and locate the GE
Energy folder where
the ControlST software
suite is installed .

The default location


is \\C: Windows7\
Program Files\GE
Energy for 32-bit
and \\C: Windows7\
Program Files (x86)
for 64-bit.

Select the GE Energy


check box.

Select OK .

Note Selecting GE Energy selects all applications you have installed from the ControlST software suite.

2. Restart your computer.

Ø To rebuild the Windows 7 Index
1. From Windows Explorer Start menu, open Control Panel.
2. Follow step 1 in the previous procedure to display the Indexing Options dialog box.
3. Click the Advanced button. If prompted by UAC, click Yes.

Select Rebuild.

4. The following message displays (rebuilding could take hours to complete). Click OK.

After a moment, you will notice the index being rebuilt. Click Close. When the index is finished being rebuilt, you will see
the message Index complete.

Ø To perform a search: from the Start menu, enter a key word, such as controller. The search results display all pdf
files that contain the term controller.

search results.
