is more than ready to begin his journey on college level mathematics in one of the most
competent institutions in the field. I am confident that the Swiss Federal Institute of
Technology will only increase the interest that I have for mathematics and will be the main
reason for me becoming a qualified researcher in the future.
The discipline of mathematics fascinates me for its capability of helping humanity
understand even the most irrelevant aspects. In fact I discovered my love for mathematics
rather late, when I started to prepare for olympics in the 9th grade. It was the first time that I
came across a part of mathematics which required a deeper understanding and taught me to be
creative while doing math. Even if it was hard for me to focus on such extracurricular
activities in the pandemic I tried to do my best by solving questions and watching videos
every single time I could spare. Two years later I was selected to attend the second stage of
the Turkey National Mathematics Olympiad which contained a two-week camp. This camp
was a turning stone for me as I was introduced to many theorems that I was not familiar with
excelling my understanding on the topics analytic geometry and number theory. There I was
awarded a second place medal leading me to prepare for the International Mathematics
Olympiad that I currently am occupied by.
As an IBDP graduate wit the score 43/45, I have also taken mathematics higher level
in the diploma programme which was relatively easy but turned out to have a different
selection of topics from olympics. There I had the chance to take more detailed calculus
lessons for the first time which motivated me to research further on the topic. With the same
motivation I attended various conferences including one organized by ETH Zürich on the
topics complex analysis and abstract algebra. One of the most significant contributions of the
diploma programme to my development was to learn how to write academic articles. I wrote
my extended essay on the topic Riemann Zeta Function and Prime Number Distribution as I
had a certain background and a great curiosity about the topic. Even though the writing
process was challenging I managed to get an A mark. Yet I am still developing my essay and
working on the topic as I think it can result in an interesting outcome. Besides of that paper I
have so many other interesting ideas, such as Catalan Numbers Beyond The 3rd Dimension,
which I am eager to continue to work on and participate to various competitions with in my
college years.
I am excited by the many ways that studying at ETH Zürich would provide for me to
advance in mathematics. As my second area of interest is physics, applying to ETH Zürich
where Albert Einstein graduated is a natural choice. The numerous faculty working in the area
would provide the ideal environment to immerse myself in the study of mathematics.
Thank you for considering my application.
