SAP Finance & Controlling (FICO)

About SAP:

SAP is a world leader in the Business Application Software market. SAP has a rich history
of innovation and growth as a true industry leader. Their innovative software products
are widely used by many FTSE 500 Companies. SAP helps Companies become best-run
Businesses. Technical and Functional SAP Consultants are very much in demand and in
fact there is a shortage of trained SAP personnel in the India & Abroad.

Introduction to SAP FICO:

FI/CO is a contribution of two different modules FI/CO whereas FI stand for Financial
Accounting and CO stands for controlling.
SAP FI - Here SAP handles accounting and finance postings. The main activity is
Accounts Receivable (customers) and Accounts Payable (suppliers), and normal General
Ledger accounting, for example bank accounts. But also cash management, assets and
investments are handled in this SAP module.
SAP CO - here SAP handles the company internal accounting, also called controlling.
The main activity is postings to Cost Centers (departments), Internal Order (small
projects), and Profit Centers. SAP CO is primarily used for reporting, in order to monitor
the financial development of the company. SAP CO and FI are fully integrated.

ROLE OF SAP FUNCTIONAL CONSULTANT:

Support clients in the selection, implementation, and support of specific SAP modules.
This role uses consulting skills, business knowledge, and SAP solution expertise to
effectively integrate SAP technology into the client’s business environment in order to
achieve client expected business results.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

 The Consultant facilitates the implementation and support of SAP modules to


enhance the clients’ business functionality and overall performance, while
maintaining a high degree of customer satisfaction.
 Design, configuration and testing in various SAP Modules: SD, MM, HR, FICO, PP
etc.
 Analyze the current business processes and scenarios of the client and
recommend/develop solutions to meet the clients need.
 Responsible primarily for successful implementation of SAP, providing functional
expertise, guidance, presentation, and instruction on SAP products to clients.
 Carry out complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or
improved procedures.
 Develop and evaluate plans and criteria to be carried out by others; provides
direction and leadership.
 Provide detailed knowledge of industry best practices.

SAP ASAP METHODOLOGY:

Any consultant willing to work as a SAP Consultant should have the knowledge of ASAP
Methodology. The SAP Consultant life starts with ASAP and Ends with ASAP.

The project normally starts off with a Kick off meeting in which the team size, team members,
reporting system, responsibilities, duties, methodology, dates and schedules, working hours
which have been pre-decided are formally defined.

ASAP, it won't be possible to explain it here, but all we can tell you about it is that it is SAP
standard implementation methodology, which SAP prescribes but is not mandatory for any
company to follow, but recommended to follow the same.

Five Phases of ASAP methodology:

The purpose of this phase is to provide initial planning and

understanding of how the company intends to run its business
within the SAP System. The result is the Business Blueprint, a
detailed documentation of the results gathered during

On successful completion of this phase, you are ready to run
your business in your live SAP System.
The purpose of this phase is to move from a project-oriented,
