Memory CASE STUDY

Memory has two types: primary and secondary. Primary memory, also known as main memory, is computer memory that a processor can access directly and includes RAM and ROM. RAM is volatile memory used by the OS and applications for temporary storage while programs are running. ROM is non-volatile and contains permanent data like the boot firmware. Secondary memory is external storage for long-term data storage and includes removable media like USB drives and CDs as well as fixed storage like hard drives.

Memory and it’s types

MEMORY
a) Memory:- Memory is the faculty of the brain by which
data or information is encoded, stored, and retrieved when needed. It
is the retention of information over time for the purpose of
influencing future action.

There are two types of memory

A. PRIMARY MEMORY

B. SECONDARY MEMORY

PRIMARY MEMORY:- Primary memory is computer memory

that a processor or computer accesses first or directly. It allows a
processor to access running execution applications and services that are
temporarily stored in a specific memory location. Primary memory is also
known as primary storage or main memory.

1.RAM:- This is the memory where the software resides while it is

running along with the data it is using. RAM is used by both OS and
application software. RAM is very fast but volatile, meaning that all
information is lost when electric power is cut off.

There are two types of RAM

a. S RAM
b. D RAM

2.ROM:-
ROM is an acronym for Read-Only Memory. It refers to
computer memory chips containing permanent or semi-permanent data.
Unlike RAM, ROM is non-volatile; even after you turn off your computer,
the contents of ROM will remain. Almost every computer comes with a
small amount of ROM containin g the boot firm ware.

2. SECONDARY MEMORY:- Secondary memory is

also termed as external memory and refers to the various storage media
on which a computer can store data and programs. The Secondary storage
media can be fixed or removable. Fixed Storage media is an internal
storage medium like hard disk that is fixed inside the computer.

TYPES OF SECONADARY MEMORY

1.PAN DRIVE
2.CD DRIVE
3.HARD DRIVE
4.SD CARD
1.PAN DRIVE:- A USB flash drive is a data storage device that
includes flash memory with an integrated USB interface. It is typically
removable, rewritable and much smaller than an optical disc. Most weigh
less than 30 g.

2. CD DRIVE:- In computing, an optical disc drive is a disc drive

that uses laser light or electromagnetic waves within or near the visible light
spectrum as part of the process of reading or writing data to or from optical
discs.
