Course Math 1400 introduces students to calculus topics, concepts and algorithms relevant to business
management, information technology management and the biological and social sciences. Topics
Description include differentiation, applications of derivatives, techniques of differentiation, differentiation of
exponential and logarithmic functions, applications of exponential and logarithmic derivatives,
integration and applications of integration.

Textbook, Textbook and Online Homework: The textbook for this course will be Calculus and Its
Applications by Goldstein, Lay, Schneider and Asmar, 14th Edition. The online homework system
Online will be MyMathLab from Pearson publishing. This course is part of the AutoAccess program
Homework, designed to reduce the cost of course materials for students. You will be able to access the digital
Calculator content for this course through Canvas on the first day of class.
Your student account will be charged $70.60 for the cost of the digital course materials. If you
choose to opt out of the digital content, you have a week from the start of class to opt out to receive
a refund. However, if you opt out of this content, you will not have the access required to complete
your homework assignments. Opting out only makes sense if you are planning to drop the
course.
Calculator: Many problems on homework assignments, quizzes and exams will require a
calculator. You may only use a business or scientific calculator. You may not use a
graphing calculator.
The course grading scale will be posted on Canvas and will be updated after each exam. If you have
a question concerning your grade, email your instructor or the course coordinator. There are no
“extra credit” assignments in this course.
Homework All homework assignments will be completed online using MyMathLab. There will be 11 homework
assignments. Exam questions are often similar to problems that appear on the homework.
Due Dates: Homework assignments are generally due at 8:00 AM on Tuesday mornings; please
check the calendar at the end of this syllabus for the exact dates. It is strongly recommended that you
begin your homework soon after topics are covered in class and that you attempt to complete your
assignments well in advance of the deadline. This will provide extra time in case you encounter
technical problems such as slow internet connections.
Practice Problems: Homework problems can be re-worked any number of times in Practice and
Review mode. You are strongly advised to take advantage of this feature since exam questions are
often similar to problems that appear on the homework.
Exams Exams in this course will be administered as timed tests in MyMathLab Please see the calendar
below for exam dates.
