Production Facilities

SCM FRIGO line: 5000 m2

STARCOLD line (2 production sites): 2500 m2

High Production Potential: we make unit design and assembling.

Facility area, lead time, quality and price are optimized thanks to the
procurement of semi-manufactured products made on our specifications from
specialized sub-suppliers present in this area where approx 70% of the cooling
units for the European market is built.

Production capability:
Average 25 units/week  SCM FRIGO
Average 30 units/week  STARCOLD

CO2 production 2014 more than 55% of total production.

We have produced approx 250 units (200 transcritical).
Rest of the production is indirect systems (chillers) or direct expansion systems
using HFC refrigerants (R134a, R407f, R404a..)

CO2 production trend 2015 more than 65% of total production.

Seminars & Training

The CO2 Training Center by SCM FRIGO S.p.A. is active since May 2013.
The training room is equipped with a CO2 BOOSTER system that works on IT
and LT loads.
The refrigerating unit is designed to work with various compressor brands
(BITZER, BOCK, COPELAND or DORIN) and with CAREL, DANFOSS and RDM
controllers.

We continue to review the market place for alternative suppliers and have
these trials ongoing in our test room reviewing alternative components and
control systems

Condensing Units Beijer Organisation (registered logo in 2011)

Technical Features

CONDENSERS DESIGN
The design is made according to the worst condition:

• MT units are designed for R407F(R448) The same unit that should be charge with R134A
- Evaporation temperature -10°C (possible working range -5/-15°C) (R450) will have the capability to work with a bigger
- Ambient temperature 32°C (10K DT at the condenser) evaporation range due to the condenser oversizing.
(Possible working Range Tev +5°/-15°C)

• BT units are designed for R407F

- Evaporation temperature -30°C
- Ambient temperature 32°C (8K DT at the condenser)

Electronic Control
On the CUBO MULTI the standard controller will be Danfoss AKPC 351 able to manage different refrigerants, inverter,
capacity steps, digital scroll.

Semi-hermetics Low Temperature compressors

The compressor is installed in a ventilated housing, furtheromere:
- if Bitzer compressors < 4CES  only head fan
- if Bitzer compressors > 4CES  CIC + head fan
- if Copeland Scroll liquid injection

Innovations
Booster pack with mechanical subcooling for convenience stores
The mechanical subcooling solution strongly reduces exergy
throttling losses thus increasing the overall system energy efficiency.
Thermodynamically further cooling of refrigerant leaving the gas
cooler or condenser can significantly reduce power consumption and
improve the system COP.

The present system is based on a CO2 booster architecture with

integrated air cooled gas cooler.
The mechanical subcooling is a packaged air condensed R290 chiller
equipped with a single reciprocating compressor.
A prototype will be ready in October and tested in Laboratory.

The integrated system performance was

compared with:

•Traditional booster system

•Booster with parallel compression

Results:
•For 35°C external ambient temperature the
mechanical subcooling system is giving:

+17% effiency compared to std

booster
+ 4.1% efficiency compared to
parallel compression system.

Ejector
SCM FRIGO is now in the design phase about the EJECTOR
technology on transcritical units. We are studying the project with
the collaboration of:

• Danfoss, supplier of the EJECTOR prototype

• Padova University for tests, analysis and future optimizations

SCM FRIGO will realize some field tests with selected customers.
