Type of Passing
•Chest Pass
•Bounce Pass
•Overhead Pass
•Baseball Pass
CHEST PASS
• The chest pass is the most common pass.
• You will pass the ball when no defender is in
the passing lane.
• The ball is held in both hands.
• The fingers are spread with the thumbs
behind the ball.
CHEST PASS
• Hold ball in both hands
• Fingers spread w/ thumbs
behind ball
• Step towards target
• Speed, power, balance
• Release
• elbows extended, snap wrist
• Palms downward
CHEST PASS EXAMPLE
BOUNCE PASS
• The Bounce Pass is used when a defender is in
the passing lane
• This pass is harder to stop.
• You must use this pass in the correct timing.
• The ball is passed by bouncing to your
teammate.
BOUNCE PASS
When performing the bounce Pass
always keep your eye on the
target.
• Hold ball at chest level.
• Hands on sides of ball.
• Fingers spread and pointed
up.
• Take step towards target.
• Direct ball downward.
• Ball bounce ¾ of way.
BOUNCE PASS EXAMPLE
OVERHEAD PASS
•This pass is like a soccer throw-in.
•This pass is useful when you are moving
the ball around the perimeter.
•Aim above head of receiver/teammate.
OVERHEAD PASS
• Hold ball over your head
• Fingers spread around ball
• Thumbs at bottom of ball
• Step towards target/teammate
• Snap wrists, rotate palms
outward
• End with fingers pointed
upward
OVERHEAD PASS EXAMPLE
BASEBALL PASS
•This pass is like a baseball throw.
•It is used for long passes.
•Hold the ball above shoulder near ear.
•Upper arm parallel to floor.
•Quick, straight, hard pass.

BASEBALL PASS
• Upper arm parallel to floor
• Quick, straight, hard pass
• Step toward
target/teammate
• Overhead throw snapping
wrist
• Fully extend arms
EXAMPLE OF BASEBALL PASS
RECEIVING/CATCHING
•Get open without the ball
•Hands in front of chest
•Fingers pointed up
•Thumbs touching for good grip
•Keep your eye on the ball
RECEIVING/CATCHING
• Follow the ball into your hands
• Step towards the ball
• Bend elbows
• Bring into chest
• In position to shoot, pass, or
dribble

Get ready for the ball!
