Statement on Limitations to Operations Related to NetAct Summary
Database
1 Summary
The capacity of the NetAct database is planned according to NetAct capacity requirements. Nokia So-
lutions and Networks shall not bear any responsibility if external software, parameter changes, or other
database related changes deteriorate the NetAct capacity or cause malfunction in NetAct by reducing
the availability of resources for NetAct.
The customer shall always notify Nokia Solutions and Networks of all additional products installed in
the NetAct runtime environment, executed patch sets, and modifications made to configurations or pa-
rameters. Nokia Solutions and Networks expects to receive this information through NetAct problem
reports or Technical Support contacts or both.
When troubleshooting NetAct defects onsite, Nokia Solutions and Networks expects to be able to set
on the default values of the database if it is reasonable to assume that the modications made by the
customer interfere with NetAct and cause the defect.
When troubleshooting NetAct defects onsite, Nokia Solutions and Networks expects to be able to set
on the default values of the database if it is reasonable to assume that the modications made by the
customer interfere with NetAct and cause the defect.
Exceptions to these are the objects needed by the third party database administration and monitoring
tools provided by Nokia Solutions and Networks or customer's own tools integrated by Nokia Solutions
and Networks. See the section SW Installation.
Changes to the database structure are not allowed because of unknown performance implications and
because changes to the database structure can affect upgrades, migrations, installations, and merge
procedures by causing unplanned downtime.
Customer specific changes to the database can be lost during upgrades. Database customizations
done in Nokia Solutions and Networks projects will be restored if the task has been included in the
project scope definition.
Configuration changes to an Oracle database instance can be done by the permission of Nokia Solu-
tions and Networks Technical Support, including but not limited to:
Nokia Solutions and Networks is not responsible for transporting customer's own Oracle instance
configuration changes to new releases during upgrades. Oracle configuration parameters in the
initoss.ora.cust file can be modified as instructed in NetAct Administration/Administering Data-
bases, and the modified rows in the file will be marked with the information showing the modification
date, name of the modifier, and the reason for the modification to help possible troubleshooting caused
by the parameter changes.
Additional index rebuilding or table analyses can be done but they might affect the overall system per-
formance by decreasing it. These should be checked on a case by case basis.
3 Database access
It is not allowed to use the NetAct database by non-Nokia Solutions and Networks software unless the
software has been specified by the NetAct release documentation. Read-only access to the NetAct
database is allowed for running reports in the following cases:
The customer shall always notify Nokia Solutions and Networks of all additional products installed in
the NetAct runtime environment, executed patch sets, and modifications made to configurations or pa-
rameters. Nokia Solutions and Networks expects to receive this information through NetAct problem
reports or Technical Support contacts or both.
When troubleshooting NetAct defects onsite, Nokia Solutions and Networks expects to be able to set
on the default values of the database if it is reasonable to assume that the modications made by the
customer interfere with NetAct and cause the defect.
These read-only operations must not decrease the resources used by the NetAct applications.
The service level agreements on the performance shall not be applied when the NetAct database is
accessed
• by third party applications that are not specified by the NetAct release documentation,
• with direct queries,
• by any access to the database impacting the NetAct performance.
It is allowed to add runtime database users to the database but Nokia Solutions and Networks will nei-
ther provide detailed instructions on how to do it nor will it support this operation because of unpre-
dictable performance implications and effects on the Oracle Resource Manager settings.
4 Software installation
All Oracle products and patches coming with NetAct have been tested and verified together with the
NetAct software. It is not allowed to install additional Oracle products or patches because the implica-
tions of such installations to the NetAct software cannot be known and Nokia Solutions and Networks
cannot guarantee proper support for them.
Integration of monitoring and administration tools to the NetAct database is allowed if the integration
is performed by Nokia Solutions and Networks. The customer has to accept the implications of such
installations on database performance. The specially created tablespace called Tools should be used
when there is a need to create server objects because of third party monitoring tools.
