CEPT, AHEMDABADQ WHAT MAKES CEPT CAMPUS effective?

A. In comparison to ordinary schools, the student and instructor roles

are reversed, and the meaning of indoors vs. outside is interpreted
differently.
Holding a lecture on the mound pushes the lecturers' comfort zones
outside of the classroom, which is uncommon on most campuses.
Indoor studios are cubicle-like space pockets where each student can
personalise everything from the light fixtures to the furniture. This
facility allows students to feel free, Ironically, in a very small space.
The spaces are more like dens where students love to spend time.
The facade consists of pivoted doors that open up, so that the enclosure
looks like a pocket created by three walls, not the conventional four .

1. WALLS = DOORS= WINDOWS

2. UNLOADED CORRIDORS

Which is to mean that the corridor is not bound by walls on either side but is a
thoroughfare that cuts through the heart of each studio- a deliberate step to
encourage peeping and work top Interaction
Brick adds intimacy of scale Massive load bearing walls- ideal display space
Punctures in the building Coupled with level changes- keep all distances very
intimate.

◾There has to be a feeling of no restriction to
the exchange of ideas and thoughts through
an informal environment.

◾A thrust has to be given on the provision of

flexible spaces which can be used in a
multifunctional manner.

◾A strong interconnectivity amongst spaces is

required, making the school an ‘ open space
with hardly any doors ’.

NIFT, New DELHI
Designed by AR.B V Doshi, NIFT campus is buzzing with activity.
REASONS FOR SELECTION -- Reputed design Institute in Capital city-To study relation of
Indoor with the outdoor spaces. To see how culture is reflected in building usage To
understand complication in a compact design with functions for textile and craft
department .

Doshi’s concept of the building revolves around form-imagery perception thus providing the building with roots, life and history. The NIFT
campus becomes a village square growing organically over time to become a theatre, the scene for unfolding drama of day to day life.
For the central kund like court, wide casually aligned steps, water-channels, green areas, over looking terraces and bridges
emerge as elements of space making to recreate for fashion and design activities.
According to Doshi following references have been used –
• STEP WELL , the steps leading to water body surrounded by platforms and galleries .
• INDIAN BAZARS , the idea of introverted indian bazaars relating to the theatrical quality of fashion and
traditional chowk or mohalla to faster a sense of community .
• KUND , the main dominant feature in the formation of institute design and which guides the way to the
campus.

tropical climate and there is plenty of rain whole year long. The rainwater is absorb by the green roof preventing water runoff from the curve roof. After the rainwater is
filtered by the green roof, the water is transferred to the gutter and then down to the filtration system underground. The rainwater will be further treated and then pump
back together with the PUB water for potable water which is also grey water.
