Greenstar Fertilizers is facing issues with high solid content in its 42% hemihydrate phosphoric acid product. The solid content is currently 4-6%, which is too high for downstream DAP and complex fertilizer production. Greenstar requests that Clear Edge study its filtration system and design a new cloth specification to reduce solid content to the required level of below 0.5%. Greenstar is producing 500 MTPD of acid currently and upgrading to 700 TPD, and uses Clear Edge cloth model E2-12833-02 in its hemihydrate filters. It provides process data to help Clear Edge understand and address the high solids issue.

Dear Sir,

Subject: Reduction of Solids in 42% Hemihydrate Phosphoric acid

As you aware, Greenstar has been manufacturing Phosphoric acid with Hemihydrate –di hydrate
process. The production capacity of the plant is 500 MTPD and the capacity is being Augmented to 700
TPD with Additional filters.

We have been using Clear edge cloth ( Model No : E2-12833-02)62 ) in HH filter which is heat treated
for the mechanical stability of the cloth and performance .With respect to Process performance, the
filtration rate is and permeability are quite acceptable. The Annual consumption of the cloth for the HH
system is about 24 almost 12 numbers.

Presently, the major issue prevails in the Plant is the higher solid content of the product acid from the
filter. The higher the solid content in the product HH acid, poorer the quality of the downstream
products Viz DAP, Complex.

We face the following issues due to Solid content in the product acid

 Sludge deposition in the product acid tanks


 Scaling of the Filter manifolds and pipe lines
 Higher rate of solid settling in our storage system which demands regular cleaning which is not
viable
 DAP and complex product quality upset due to higher solid content

The average content of solids in the present acid is 4- 6 % which is not acceptable for the DAP and
complex Plant design acid Quality of <0.5 % solids

In order to get the lower solid level of 0.5% in the product acid, we appeal M/s Clear edge to study the
system and provide proper solution to vary the design of the cloth specification to cater our need. The
redesigned cloth shall be equally stable in mechanical and process aspects.
In this regard, Greenstar will provide all the necessary process data whichever will be requested by
M/s Clear edge. Kindly revert with study and solution to our requirement
