CS8792 Cryptography and Network Security: Objectives

This document outlines the objectives and units of study for a course on Cryptography and Network Security. The course covers five main units: (1) an introduction to classical and modern cryptography techniques; (2) symmetric key cryptography including algorithms like DES and AES; (3) public key cryptography including RSA and Diffie-Hellman; (4) message authentication and integrity using techniques like hashing and digital signatures; and (5) security practices for email, IP networks, and web security as well as system security concepts. The course aims to help students understand network security fundamentals, threats, and apply cryptographic algorithms and authentication schemes to simulate applications.
