Course Outline in Electricity & Magnetism

Course Code: E204

Course Title: Electricity & Magnetism
Course credit: 4 units (18 weeks, 72 hours)
Prerequisite: Fluid Mechanics

Course Description
This course is designed to discuss knowledge of basic relationship between electricity and
magnetism. It includes topics on electrostatics and magnetism, electric and magnetic fields in matter,
electrodynamics and electromagnetic waves. It provides the students with the mathematical relationship
between current, voltage and resistance in an electric circuit. Students must gain skills in solving
problems needing high mathematical analysis apart from the principles comprising this area of physics.
Upon knowing the relationships between electricity and magnetism, students must be able to apply the
concepts and principles to real life situations for life-long learning.

Course Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Select and use appropriate models and techniques for finding solutions to problems related to
Electricity & Magnetism and apply the concepts and principles to real life situations in accordance
with the use of latest technology.

Grading Final Grade is computed as follows:

System FG = (PG + MG + TFG)/3
where:
 FG refers to the Final Grade
 PG refers to the Prelim Grade
 MG refers to the Midterm Grade
 TFG refers to the Tentative Final Grade

The Prelim Grade is computed as (1st CS) + (Prelim Exam)

The Midterm Grade is computed as (2nd CS) + (Midterm Exam)
The Tentative Grade is computed as (3rd CS) + (Final Exam)
 CS refers to Class Standing which is 60% composed of Quizzes (30%)+
Recitation (20%) + Attendance (10%)
 Recitation includes participation in discussion prompts for online classes and
discussion activities for offline classes.
 Major Exams = 40%
Course Aside from academic deficiency, other grounds for a failing grade are:
Policies 1. Cheating during quiz/exam.
2. Improper or impolite way of communicating online.
2. Grave misconduct other than cheating as defined in the Student Manual
3. Exceeding 20% Allowable absences
4. Other rules and regulations in the UCU Student Manual and College Orientation.
