The WB Police SI Syllabus and Exam Pattern has been issued by the West Bengal Police Recruitment
Board (WBPRB) through the official notification. Candidates must thoroughly understand the West
Bengal Police SI Syllabus and Exam Pattern to improve their chances of selection for the advertised
vacancies. A combined total of 26,400 vacancies have been announced for the posts of Sub Inspector
and Constable by the WBPRB. The individual vacancies for each post will be announced soon by the
WBPRB. The candidates must understand the guidelines put forth by the WBPRB before applying for
the post of West Bengal Police SI.

• The selection process for the West Bengal Police SI involves a preliminary examination, physical
efficiency test and physical measurement test, a combined competitive exam, and a personality
test.

• The preliminary examination consists of 100 questions from 3 distinct sections of studies and
the entire exam lasts for a duration of 90 minutes. The questions are available in both English
and Bengali for the candidates.

• Every question in the paper is worth two marks. Each correct answer is rewarded with 2 marks,
bringing the total scorable marks in the preliminary examination to 200 marks. For every in-
correct answer, 1/4th marks or 0.5 marks are deducted. There is no negative marking for leaving
questions un-attempted.

• Only the candidates who qualify the cutoff for the preliminary examination will be eligible for
the Physical Measurement Test (PMT) and Physical Efficiency Test (PET). Both the PMT and
PET are qualifying in nature

• Post the physical measurement and efficiency test, there will be a combined competitive exam-
ination that the candidates must appear for. It comprises of 3 exams i.e. Paper I (General Studies
and Arithmetic), Paper 2 (English), and Paper 3 (Bengali, Hindi, Nepali, Urdu) for a total of 200
marks. All three exams will be held on the same day.

• Subsequently the candidates must appear for a personality test worth 30 marks. During this test,
the document verification process will also be completed.

The candidates must thoroughly understand the eligibility criteria and the other important guidelines

West Bengal Police SI Exam Pattern 2020


The WB Police SI Exam Pattern 2020 comprises five stages. First, there is a Preliminary Exam, fol-
lowed by a Physical Measurement Test and a Physical Efficiency Test. After this there is a Final

Combined Competitive Exam, followed by the final Personality Test. The exam pattern of all the stages
are mentioned below:

Preliminary Exam
• This exam will either be an OMR-based MCQ type written exam or will be a Computer Based
Test (CBT), depending on the number of the candidates.
• The exam consists of 100 questions worth 200 marks in total.
• The exam is for a duration of 90 minutes.
• Every correct answer is rewarded with 2 marks.
• Every incorrect answer leads to the deduction of 0.25 marks. There is no negative marking for
the questions that are left un-attempted.

Candidates must go through the WB Police SI exam syllabus thoroughly and prepare themselves ac-
cordingly. Candidates must score the minimum marks required to pass the preliminary examination
and move onto the next stages for selection.

Physical Measurement Test and Physical Efficiency Test (PMT & PET)
In this stage, the candidate must satisfy the physical requirements stipulated by the WBPRB. Candi-
dates should first clear the PMT to proceed for the PET. The physical measurement requirements are
mentioned below:

If the candidates fulfil this criterion, they are eligible for Physical Efficiency Test (PET).

Physical Efficiency Test for Male Candidates for the post 800 meters run within 03
of WB Police Sub Inspector (three) minutes

If the candidate is dissatisfied with his Physical Measurement Test (PMT), he may appeal in writing
before the Chairperson of the Selection Board/Committee on the same day of his test. No appeal in this
regard will be entertained in future. The height of a candidate may be re-measured at any stage includ-
ing the Personality Test at the discretion of the Board and the decision of the Board shall be final and
binding on the candidates.

Final Competitive Examination


This WB Police SI exam pattern consists of three different papers. The candidates must score the re-
quired cutoff to be eligible for the personality test.

• All the papers are held on the same day.


• Paper I will be set in three languages i.e. English, Bengali and Nepali.

Personality Test
This combined competitive exam is followed by a Personality Test. This is a personality assessment
conducted by the WBPRB and the candidates must score 8 marks in the test out of 30, failing which
they will be disqualified. During this stage, their documents will also be verified.

WB Police SI Syllabus for the Physical Efficiency Test and Personality Test
After the candidate qualifies through the Prelims, they've to appear for the Physical Measurement Test
(PMT) and then they will have to qualify the Physical Efficiency Test (PET). Following this, they’ve to
qualify the Final Combined Competitive Exam and lastly the Personality Test. There is no specific WB
