Several conflicts happen Condensed Milk. I am going to focus on the internal conflict of the
narrator. The narrator faces the internal conflict of man vs self. He struggled with survival ,
choosing survival over escape. “Everything here had to be paid for. Either with another man’s
blood or another man’s life.” This is what he knew of Shestakov plan for escape. He opted to
get the milk he needed for survival over possible freedom. Survival of himself was his focus as
he opted not to tell the others. The story says "but they needed a warning. Shestakov managed
to convince five people.” I have to believe that long after he was released, long after he left, he
had to face his decision to not warn the other five men. The narrator learned how to survive
using everything or everyone.

In Module 1 story, Condensed Milk, the narrator faced several conflicts. The main conflict he

faces was survival. When given a option for escape he had to think about the results and figure

out what the results would be. He opted for survival and not take Shestakov bait for escape. He

opted to trick Shestakov and get the food he needed for strength, for survival, to take care of only
himself. He struggles with this and says as he reflects and writes the story, "Envy, like all our
feelings, had been dulled. We were indifferent to everything." He took a chance to get what he
ed d
needed and it paid off for him because in the end he knew he had to survive. Survival was placed
above escape and survival was placed above honesty when it came to tricking Shestakov.

I think it is human nature to take care of yourself, to survive. It however has to change you
when you could easily help another by simply saying "watch out, it's a trick, think about how
you will escape.” He wrote the story after he experienced it, it seems. He justifies his actions
several times during the story as I explained in the previous answers. I do think he changed

because of the conflict where he opted not to tell the others. He chose to put two cans of milk
for himself above the life of five men. He knew only he could make himself survive. His
survival is what he had to put above everything else or anyone else. He drank the milk with the
others watching, just like others did, without the guilt.

We all face conflicts, big and small, and at 14 years old my conflicts are on the small side.
I recently had to choose between ice cream flavors at the store. I was choosing between a
double scoop of chocolate or chocolate mint. I never stray from chocolate flavors but still
struggle with the decision. I went with the chocolate mint. As a result I was happy until my
sister wanted to switch for a taste. I agreed, even though I chose mint chocolate and I thought

my internal conflict between the two was over, it wasn't. It was then when I tasted my sisters
cotton candy ice cream that I learned I needed to broaden my taste. I have found that I need
