Thank you for purchasing CLASS-Agent Software. To get the most out of this software, read this manual
carefully before use.

This instruction manual describes how to use and operate CLASS-Agent Software. It assumes that the
user has a basic familiarity with Windows® 2000 and experience using a personal computer.

The basic terminology used in Windows® 2000 is used in this instruction manual to explain procedures for
using CLASS-Agent Software. For definitions of unfamiliar words, please refer to the Windows® 2000
manual or help file.

A first-time user of Windows® 2000 should first obtain a basic level of understanding of the operating
system before reading this manual.

About CLASS-Agent Software
CLASS-Agent Software is database management software designed to create a link between data
processing application software and a database. It provides various database management
functions and capabilities. Data can be automatically stored in a database that is created in a format
used in general-purpose database applications, such as MS-Access and MS SQL Server and
Oracle . Data stored in the database can be sorted by sample, instrument or user. This makes it
easier for the user to sort analysis/measurement data (analysis/measurement files) that are read
from any Shimadzu data processing product (CLASS-VP, LabSolutions) or from any balance.

With this software, the user can perform an analysis without having to decide where to store
analysis results and what to specify as a filename. The user is able to analyze data stored in a
database, summarize analysis results, and prepare detailed printed reports like test reports,
summary reports, and daily routine reports. These data management capabilities are designed to
relieve the user from the burden of storing and recording data, thereby increasing the efficiency of
routine operations.

In this software, a database can be created in a format used by commercially available


general-purpose database applications. The user is able to create a personalized database using
such application software as MS-Access, MS-Excel and MS-Word.

About the Instruction Manual


The authors have used their best efforts to prepare this document and provide current information.
However, the information and software discussed in this document are subject to change. For the
latest information, read the contents of the "README2.TXT" file in the program directory of this
software.

The names of data processing software and equipment are expressed generically. Model names
and type names are indicated where it is necessary to identify software or equipment.
This software package is referred to as "CLASS-Agent Software" in this manual.

1 Introduction

IRsolution Agent is software designed to make entries of measurement results obtained from an
IRsolution system to a database shared by all types of CLASS-Agent Software. This software consists of
two programs:
• The Automatic Agent program that registers measurement data imported from calculated data files
or their related files created by the IRsolution to a database without user intervention
• The Manual Agent program that registers stored measurement files to a database manually

The Agent Manager software that comes with IRsolution Agent makes it much easier to view, print or
approve stored data, add sample information, copy data to other applications and restore measurement
files.
IRsolution Agent software supports GLP/GMP-compliant security capabilities and log capabilities,
making it easier to audit the operations performed by users.

1.1 Features
This program provides the following.

1. Stores analysis data automatically (saved to compressed archive files).


2. Keeps records of analysis results (analysis values are stored in databases).
3. Keeps analysis logs. The analysis logs contain data on registered user names,
displayed user names, and operations performed by each user.

4. Provides security management for analysis data.
5. Stores or views analysis data and logs on a LAN.
6. Extracts, views, sorts or prints stored data.
7. Executes approval workflow.
8. Adds sample information (lot number, sampling place, time, etc.).
9. Transfers data and spectra to other applications.
10. Restores analysis files and method files.

11. Sends notice of analysis completion or analysis data by e-mail.

12. Post or view data on a corporate Internet.

1.1.1 Features of the IRsolution Automatic Agent Program


IRsolution Automatic Agent Program (IR_tt2.exe) allows automatic entry of measurement data
obtained from an IRsolution system to a database.

A user can do the following:


1. Store calculation result information in a database.
2. Save measurement files as archive files.
3. Sort data by sample name, sample ID, user name or operation date (Month).
4. Keep a log of database registration.
5. Share and control system resources on a LAN.
6. Run an application when registering data to a database.

1.1.2 Features of the IRsolution Manual Agent Program


The IRsolution Manual Agent Program (IR_mt2.exe) allows manual entry of measurement data
obtained from an IRsolution system and stored in a measurement file to a specified database.

A user can do the following:


1. Store calculation result information in a database.
2. Save measurement files as archive.
3. Keep a log of database registration.
4. Share and control system resources on a LAN.
5. Run an application when registering data in a database.

1.1.3 Features of Agent Manager


The Agent Manager program (Agentman2.exe) enables a user to view analysis/measurement
data in a database from a personal computer on a local area network. This feature can be used on
all personal computers to which the Agent Manager program has been installed, regardless of
whether the Automatic Agent Program is installed. An Administrative CLASS-Agent Software
License is required.

A user can do the following:


1. View a list of databases.
2. View, extract, sort or print sample information/analysis values stored in a database.
3. View a combination of data information and sample information, and display several rows
of a data information/sample information table.
4. Copy, move or delete information contained in a database.
5. Decompress compressed files or restore analysis files.
6. View object link files with filename extensions (AIA files and META files).
7. Copy displayed data or object data (chromatograph /spectrum data) to the Clipboard.
8. Set an approval flag to data according to the approval flowchart.
9. Add sample tag information (lot number, sampling place, etc.) for up to 10 items.
10. View or print a log of stored data.
11. Send analysis data by e-mail.
12. Create user accounts and user groups (for security protection).
13. Create new databases in MDB format (SQL format requires the use of optional programs).
14. Make backups of databases.
15. Register additional system logs.
16. Shift from a LAN environment to a local environment.

[NOTE] When ER/ES(Electronic Record/Electronic Signature) mode is selected at


installation, the above functions are restricted.

1.2 Handling Precautions


When using CLASS-Agent Software, the following precautions should always be followed.

1.2.1 Before Using CLASS-Agent Software


1. Using CLASS-Agent Software on a LAN
(1) CLASS-Agent Software recognizes a network computer name as a registered
instrument name. Do not connect PCs on a LAN if they have the same name.
(2) Use a unique name for an analysis device name that can read by the
Automatic Agent Program. The unique name should be identified in the
database.

2. About Archive Files and Object Link Files


CLASS-Agent Software supports MS-Windows' long filenames (up to 255
characters).

3. About Database Name and Subdirectories


CLASS-Agent Software automatically creates a directory where a database is
stored and subdirectories where archives files and object link files are stored, so
that these files are linked to databases. Do not change database names and
directory names using Windows Explorer. If a database name or directory name is
changed, the files cannot be found by the CLASS-Agent software and archive
files cannot be decompressed.

4. Using the Accessory Programs


CLASS-Agent Software comes with accessory programs. Do not use these
accessory programs in any other application software. Use the accessory
programs in accordance with their respective manuals.

5. Running Other Applications


Do not run CLASS-Agent Software and other applications that are not supported
by CLASS-Agent Software at the same time. Even if CLASS-Agent Software and
applications supported by CLASS-Agent Software are used at the same time, an
error may be caused due to heavy load, depending on CPU speed, memory space
and use of a LAN. Use only a PC that meets the minimum system requirements.

6. About Database Size


• For an MDB-format database set the maximum number of records in a sample
information table to somewhere around 10,000. If records exceed the maximum
number, create a new database so that the records can be divided between the
two databases. Use CLASS-Agent Software to create the new database.
• For an MSDE (Microsoft Data base Engine) database, the upper limit of the
database size is 2 GB. If data to be saved exceeds this, the data is saved in an
MDB-format temporary database. The administrator should check the database
size temporarily, and change the settings of the Agent system so that the data is
saved to a new database before the database size reaches 2 GB. Alternatively,
the administrator should make a backup of the database, then delete unnecessary
data to increase free space in the database. To handle databases of 2 GB or more,
replace the current system with the SQL Server system (sold separately).

7. Restriction in Character Codes Available in a Database


In the display field of a database table, codes for “|” (pipe), line feed and tab
cannot be input. If these codes are included in an element name or comment, they
are automatically replaced with a space.

8. About Setting the Date


When using Class-Agent, do not set the day of the week in "Short date style"
available by choosing [Control Panel] → [Region Settings] → [Date].

In Agent Ver. 2, any time in the date field of a database is stored as the GMT
(Greenwich Mean Time).
To display the local time while the database is directly accessed, adjust the stored
GMT time.

9. Changing the Password Using the Database Software


When the password of a database is changed using the database software
(MS-Access, SQL Server or Oracle ), the database link setting in the Agent
Manager and the Automatic/Manual Agent should be reset.
Since only a database administrator can change a password, the contents currently
described here are not related to usual employment other than a database
administrator.

10. Data format archived into the CLASS-Agent database


Listed Data format that are created by FTIR can be archived into the
CLASS-Agent database.

1.2.2 About the Automatic Agent Program

1. Starting the program for the first time


Settings for instrument names and database assignment are not factory-set for the
Automatic Agent Program. Before using the Automatic Agent Program, a user
who has administrative responsibilities must log in , define a Login ID and create a
database.

2. Displaying the progress meter for file compression


The progress meter for file compression is displayed while various analysis data
is compressed and saved to an archive file. For routine operations, turn off the
check box for displaying the progress meter. If that check box is turned on, the
progress meter may pop up while other applications are running, causing the
screen to flicker.

3. Using the taskbar for routine operations


For routine operations, minimize the main screen of the Automatic Agent
Program to an icon in the taskbar. If the main screen is open on the desktop, the
[Logout] button may be clicked by mistake.

4. Security protection against automatic login attempts


If an Auto-login option is selected, a login attempt can be made under any login
ID different from the one assigned to the user. Do not use an Automatic -login
option if it is necessary to control access and manage users at a login. Define and
assign a password to each user.

5. Running an external application


When settings are made for running external applications, specify applications
that meet the minimum conditions described below. If these settings are not
properly made, a particular application may start each time automatic entries are
made, leaving several instances of the application open. This causes error
messages to appear, and makes it impossible to run other applications.
Conditions:
1. An application must automatically terminate each time a single task of data
processing is completed.
2. Data processing time ends within the intervals of registering data to a
database for automatic entries.
3. If two or more of a same application are open at the same time, operations can
be made each window.
4. An application should display no more messages than necessary.

1.2.4 About the Agent Manager Program


1. About the Default System Administrator
If running CLASS-Agent Manager for the first time, log in to CLASS-Agent
Manager using the following: ID= “Admin” and Password= “” (blank). After
starting CLASS-Agent Manager, change this login ID's password. The login ID
“Admin” is the Supervisor account that has the system administration permission
for CLASS-Agent Software. The login ID “Admin” is created during installation.
The user account with login ID “Admin” is not displayed on the user information
screen.

2. Sharing a Database on a LAN


To share files on a local area network (LAN), set up the network capabilities in the
"Configuration" dialog box in CLASS-Agent Manager after the installation of
CLASS-Agent Software is completed. If folders are shared on a LAN after
CLASS-Agent Manager is installed, care should be taken to select the appropriate
options, otherwise the settings for instrument information and log information
may be overwritten. After these settings are made, create user accounts so that
system resources can be shared on a LAN.

3. Creating a User Account


Specify a login ID, user name and security level when creating a user account.
The creation of a user account is limited to users having the Administrator
permission. Each user can change his or her own password at any time after
logging in to CLASS-Agent Manager.

4. Creating a Database
In the "New MDB Database" dialog box in CLASS-Agent Manager, create an
MDB database to store analysis data. The creation of a database is limited to users
having the Administrator permission. To create an MS SQL Server formatted
database or MSDE (Microsoft Data Engine) formatted database, use the
CLASS-Agent Manager accessory program for creating an SQL database.

5. Listing and Viewing Log Databases or Temporary Databases


By default, three databases are displayed on a database-list screen in
CLASS-Agent Manager. They include the system log database, temporary data
database (Temp_Dt2.mdb) and temporary log database (Temp_Log2.mdb). They
are created during installation, with passwords assigned. These databases cannot
be viewed using MS Access or any other application. These databases can only be
viewed in CLASS-Agent Manager.

6. Screen Saver
When this software is started after installation in the ER/ES mode, the system is
set so that the screen saver dedicated to the Agent system is automatically
activated. After this software is closed, the system returns to the original setting.

For Windows NT, the screen lock is valid. If a password is required, set a
password for the screen lock in the OS.
The default value of the time until the screen saver starts is 5 minutes. To change
this value, change “common.inf2” in "Environment Setting" of the Agent
Manager. For example, to set to 10 minutes the waiting time until the screen saver
starts, add the following two lines.

7. Log Types
Log information is separated into the data log for data operations and the system
log (Log2.mdb) where logs related to the system are saved.
When the contents of the database storing the data acquired from the analysis
instrument are changed, the history of such changes is stored in the data log.
When the contents of options not directly related to the data are changed, the
history of such changes is stored in the system log.
Click the log on the database tree to display the log information on the sample
information table.

8. Precautions for Multiple Users in Windows NT


• The common network settings offered by choosing [Tools] → [Configuration]
on the Agent Manager menu should be executed by a user having the NT
“Power Users” or “Administrators” permission.
• In multi-user mode of NT, all other settings should be executed for each user ID.
The Agent system administrator should login using each NT user ID and
perform the required settings.

2.1 IRsolution Setup


This program makes changes to IRsolution settings so that measurement data can be
automatically registered by IRsolution. If a setting has already been made for data collection
from this system (IR device), measurement data will be automatically registered after the
completion of each measurement after starting Automatic Agent.

2.2 Automatically Storing Measurement Data in a Database


This section introduces procedures for storing measurement data in a database using Automatic
Agent.

Flowchart of Operations

Create a user account and database in Agent Manager.

Start the Automatic Agent Program.

Log in to the system.

Set up each instrument.

Start measurement.

Check stored data in Agent Manager.

2.2.1 Starting the Automatic Agent Program


1. Before using the program
Before using the IRsolution Automatic Agent program, create a user account and database
using Agent Manager. In Automatic Agent, specify a user ID and password to login to the
system. For these procedures, see the CLASS-Agent Manager Software Instruction Manual.

2. Starting the program


The following shows two typical methods of starting the program.
Using the Start button
Click the [Start] button, point to [Programs] → [Class-Agent Software Ver.2.0] and click
[IRsolution Automatic Agent].

Using a folder icon on the desktop


(1) On the desktop, double -click the icon for the CLASS-Agent Software Ver.2.0. The
CLASS-Agent Software Ver.2.0 folder opens.

Double-click here.

(2) Double-click the icon for [IRsolution Automatic Agent].

Double-click here.

2.2.2 Logging In to the System


After the program starts, the "Login" dialog box is displayed.

Type a login ID and password in the text boxes. Regardless of the characters typed, only
asterisks (*) appear in the "Password" text box. The password must be correctly entered.
Passwords are case-sensitive.

Click the [OK] button. The login ID and password are checked against the ones recorded for the
user account. If they match the stored entries, the main screen is displayed under login status.
Clicking the [Cancel] button aborts a login attempt, but the main screen is displayed. To gain
access to the system, follow the login procedure from the main screen.

2.2.3 Specifying a Database for Each Instrument


A destination database must be assigned to an instrument number in IRsolution. The following
procedure shows an example in which measurement data obtained from instrument 1 is stored in
the database named C:\Agent2\IRTest.mdb. First, create a database using Agent Manager.

1) Click the "Assign database per instrument" menu item in the "Menu List" pane, The "Assign

1. Instrument Name
"Read from Data File" check box is used to get the instrument name from IRsolution's
data file. If unchecked, the instrument name in the "Name" text box. The specified
instrument name is used to register to instrument field in database.
2. Register data
Click the "Register data" check box so that it is turned on, as shown in the figure. If this
check box is off, data is not stored in a database.
3. Destination database
In the "Destination database" list box, specify a database in which to store data. Clicking
the [Browse] button opens the "Select Database" dialog box.

In the "Select Database" dialog box, click “IRTest.mdb” to specify the destination
database to be used, and click the [OK] button.

4) In the "User Name" list box, specify a user name that accompanies data information
stored in the selected database. If the "Login user name" option is selected, the name of a
user who is currently logged in will be recorded with data information in the selected
database.
Click the [OK] button in the "Assign database per instrument" dialog box to finish the
setting. The contents of the "Assign database per instrument" pane is updated, as shown
below.

2.2.4 Making a Measurement


1) Set up IRsolution for measurement. Refer to the IRsolution instruction manual.

2) Click “Status” in the left-hand pane, so that the status of data being stored in the database is
displayed in the right-hand pane.

3) Perform a measurement of data obtained from the IRsolution system.

4) After measurement is complete, the "Status" pane displays the status of compressed files,
copied files and database registration.

Before storing IRsolution measurement data manually, create a user account and database
using Agent Manager. To use the Manual Agent Program, specify a user ID and password at
login to the system. For these procedures, see the CLASS-Agent Manager Software
Instruction Manual.

2. Starting the program


The following shows two typical methods of starting the program.
Using the Start button
Click the [Start] button, point to [Programs] → [Class-Agent Software Ver.2.0] and click
[IRsolution Manual Agent].

After the program starts, the "Login" dialog box is displayed.

user account. If they match the stored entries, the main screen is displayed under login status.
Clicking the [Cancel] button aborts a login attempt, but the main screen is displayed. To gain

Specify a destination database where the IRsolution measurement data is to be stored. The
following procedure shows an example in which measurement data is stored to
C:\Agent2\IRTest.mdb. A database must first be created using Agent Manager.

1) Click the "Select Database..." menu item in the "File Menu" pane.
Clicking the [Browse] button opens the "Select Database" dialog box.

In the "Select Database" dialog box, click “IRTest.mdb” to specify the destination database
to use, and click the [OK] button.

3.1 Introduction
The Automatic Agent program is used to register measurement results obtained from IRsolution
programs to a database specified for each system. This program reads specified measurement
results after measurement is completed, and registers the measurement results to a database. The
registered measurement data can be viewed, edited or printed at any time using Agent Manager.

Compressed files can be extracted using Agent Manager. They can be re-registered to a database
using the Manual Agent program, after recalculation by the measurement program.
In IRsolution, a data file is compressed and saved with its filename and folder name during a
measurement process. If a compressed data file is decompressed and saved to a different folder,
recalculation may be prevented.

(1) The [Taskbar] button

This button minimizes the main screen to a taskbar icon. To redisplay the main screen,
double-click or right-click the taskbar icon for IRsolution Automatic Agent.

Although the main screen disappears from the desktop, the task of storing data in a database
continues. The icon in the taskbar changes its color, depending on the operating status of the
program.

Double- or right-click on the IRsolution Automatic Agent icon displayed on the taskbar.

[NOTE] In the ER/ES (Electronic Record/Electronic Signature) mode, double - or


right-clicking the IRsolution icon displays the user check dialog box. The window is
redisplayed only when the correct password is entered.

(2) The [Login] button

The IRsolution Automatic Agent program provides security protection that restricts system
use to previously defined authorized users, and grants permissions to restrict the operations
that users may perform. The login procedure restricts access and system use to authorized
users. User’s activities are recorded in a log database. A log database can be viewed using
Agent Manager.

The [Login] button opens the "Login" dialog box, as shown below.

Procedure

1) Type a login ID and password in the text boxes. Passwords are case-sensitive.

2) Click the [OK] button. A user will be allowed to gain access to the system if the login ID
and password entered meet the following conditions.

• The login ID entered matches the one registered to Agent Manager.


• The password entered matches the one assigned to the login ID entered.
• The Run Agent/GW permission has been granted to the user who has entered the
login ID.

If these conditions are not met, the user will have to make a login attempt by clicking
[Login] when the program starts. Clicking the [Cancel] button or logging in with a user
account that does not have the Run Agent/GW permission starts the program in logout
status. See the [Logout] button.

About User Permissions


User permissions are assigned to each login ID in Agent Manager. The operations that a user
may perform depend on degrees of user permissions. The user permissions include the
following.
1) Run Agent/GW permission
“ON” A user can log in.
“OFF” A user cannot log in.

2) Properties/Option permission
“ON” A user can make changes to all settings. Whether a user is allowed to create or
delete a database is determined by a setting as described in “3) Database Man-
agement permission.”
“OFF” A user cannot make a change to all settings. A user is allowed to open only the
"Status" pane.

3) Database Management permission


“ON” A user can use the [Add to list] and [Delete from list] buttons in the "Select Da-
tabase" dia log box.
“OFF” A user cannot use the [Add to list] and [Delete from list] buttons in the "Select
Database" dialog box.
[NOTE] For procedures for creating a user account and granting user permissions, see the
CLASS-Agent Manager Software Instruction Manual.

(3) The [Logout] button

This button enables a user to log out without exiting the program. The user can no longer
make settings or store data in a database; however, the user can use command buttons other
than the [Logout] button. This button is useful when several users take turns performing
operations while running the program, or when a user intentionally stops storing data in a
database throughout the system.
The [Logout] button opens the "Logout" message box, shown below.

Procedure
1) Click the [Logout] button in the toolbar in the main screen. The "Logout" message box is
displayed.

2) Click the [OK] button to logout. Clicking the [Cancel] button aborts a logout attempt.

[NOTE] In the ER/ES mode, the "Logout check" dialog is displayed. The correct password
must be entered to log out.

(4) The [Help] button

This button opens the help window for a particular topic about the main screen. It is useful
when a user needs on-line help while using the program. Pressing the F1 key also opens the
help window; however, this shows the help topics related to the currently open window.

(5) The [Exit] button

This button exits the program. It automatically executes the logout procedure if the program
is directly terminated under login status.

3.4 Status Bar


The status bar indicates the operating status of the program.

1) Operating status indicator


The operating status is indicated in the following three ways. An icon in the taskbar changes
its color depending on the operating status of the program.

The “Ready” status means that the program is on standby after a login,
monitoring IRsolution data output.
Green

The “Processing” status means the program is now processing and


registering IRsolution data output to a database.
Yellow

The “OFF” status means that the program is logged out. Even if
IRsolution data is output, it will not be processed or registered to a
Gray database.

2) Login user indicator


This indicates the name of the currently logged in user. The word “Logout” is displayed after
a logout.

3) Database status indicator


This indicator counts the number of times data is written into a database. The database status
is indicated in the following three ways.
OK This indicates the number of times all data and logs are processed and registered in a
normal condition.
WA This indicates the number of times data is registered in a normal condition but log
information is not properly written. The log information is stored in a temporary log
database (TMP_LOG2.MDB).
NG This indicates the number of times data cannot be registered to a database. The data is
stored in a temporary database (TMP_DT2.MDB), while the log information is stored
in a temporary log database (TMP_LOG2.MDB).

3.5 Using the Menu List


Menu items are listed in the left-hand pane of the main screen. Clicking a menu item displays
settings for the selected menu item in the right-hand pane. The selection of these menu items is
restricted to users having the Option/Configuration permission. If a user does not have this
permission, only the "Status" pane is displayed. Changes made to settings are saved to the
system registry, and they remain effective even after the program is exited.

The menu has the following 6 setting options.


• "Status"
• "Configuration"
• "Assign database per instrument"
• "Select database by keyword priority"
• "Select compression files"
• "Execute application"

occurred after a login.

3.5.2 Configuration Settings


The following describes how to make settings for basic operating conditions of the Automatic
Agent program. The use of this feature is restricted to users having the Property/Option
permission.

Option items
1) Login Mode
The Login Mode section is used to specify a login method. For the login procedure, see “3.3
Command Buttons.”
a) The "Normal login" radio button.
If this radio button is on, no auto login attempt is made at a boot-up. The "Login" dialog
box displays the login ID entered at the last login.
b) The "Automatic login" radio button
If this radio button is on, an automatic login attempt is made at a boot-up. The login ID
entered must match the one defined as described in the following step.

2) The "Login ID" and "Password" text boxes


In these text boxes, specify a login ID and password to set the login mode to "Auto login."
The login ID and password entered must match the ones registered to Agent Manager.

3) The "Register this program to Windows Startup" check box


This check box is used to specify whether the Automatic Agent Program is activated
automatically after Windows starts.
“ON” IRsolution Automatic Agent starts running automatically.
“OFF” IRsolution Automatic Agent does not run automatically.
[NOTE] When exiting from this program, some changes are made to the contents of the
IRsolution registry. If any changes have been made to these initialization settings,
reboot and restart IRsolution.

3.5.3.1 Assigning Databases to Each System


The use of this feature is restricted to users having the Properties/Option permission. The
title “Assign database per instrument” is used for convenience only to maintain
compatibility with other analytical instruments. Since only one analytical instrument can
be connected to the IRsolution, a setting can be made for only one analytical instrument
(system).

- The "Assign database per instrument" dialog box -

Option Items
1) The "Instrument Name" section
"Read from Data File" check box is used to get instrument name from IRsolution's
data file. If unchecked, the instrument name can be input in the "Name" text box. The
specified instrument name is used for the instrument field in the database.

2) The "Register data" check box


This check box is used to specify data collection.
“ON” Data is collected.
“OFF” Data is not collected.

3) The "Destination database" text box


This text box is used to specify a database where data is stored. Clicking the [Browse]
button just to the right of this test box opens the "Select Database" dialog box. For
detailed information, see “3.5.3.2 Selecting a Database."

4) The "User Name" list box


This list box is used to specify an operator name that is registered to a database. This
list box provides the following three options.
a) Login user name
b) IRsolution′s user name
c) Specific user name registered in a user table.

The "Select Database" dialog box is used to select a database, add it to a list or delete it
from the list. The use of the [Add to list] and [Delete from list] buttons requires the
Database Management permission.
The use of all features provided in the "Select Database" dialog box, including the [Add
to list] and [Delete from list] buttons, requires the Properties/Option permission.

Input an Agent database file name that you want to add. If connection test is normal,

Databases can be assigned by a keyword that is included in sample information. Database
assignment settings supersede system configuration settings described in “3.5.3.1 Assigning
Databases to Each System."

1) The "Select database by keyword priority" pane
This pane displays current settings. If measurement data corresponds to several setting
items, the highest priority is given to a setting item displayed in the upper row.

This button opens the "Select database by keyword priority" dialog box, assignment items
can be added. Up to 20 settings for database assignment by keyword may be made.

3) The [Edit] button


This button opens the "Select database by keyword priority" dialog box, where selected
settings can be edited. For detailed information, see “3.5.4.1 Assigning Databases by
Keyword."

4) The [Delete] button


This button deletes selected items for database assignment.
During the deletion, the [Delete] message box is displayed.
Click the [Yes] button to delete the selected allocation items.
Clicking the [No] button aborts the deletion.

This list box is used to specify an operator name that is registered to a database. This
list box provides the following three options.
a) Login user name
b) IRsolution’s user name
c) Specific user name registered in a user table.

This check box specifies whether to start an application automatically after storing data in a
database (to send e-mail, or print operation results, etc.).
“ON” An application will start automatically. If checked, specify the name of the appli-
cation to start, the name of the output folder where the sample information file (a
measurement result text file prepared for the application) will be stored, and make
the setting in the "Add a sample information file name in the command line at the
time of execute" check box as described in Step 2)-4).
“OFF” An application will not start automatically.

In this text box, specify the full path name of the application to start automatically. Clicking
the [Browse] button just to the right of text box displays the application selection dialog box.
Select an application name and click the [Open] button. The selected application name is
registered. Clicking the [Cancel] button aborts the selection.

3) The "Sample information export folder" text box


In this text box, specify the full path name of the destination folder where the sample
information file (a text file that is made available for an application) is to be stored. Clicking
the [Browse] button just to the right of the text box displays the "Folder Select" dialog box,
where a destination folder can be selected. For detailed information, see “3.5.6.1 Selecting a
Folder."

4) The "Add a sample information file name in the command line" check box
A sample information filename is used in a command line when starting an external
application.
“ON” A sample information filename is added to a command line.
“OFF” A sample information filename is not added to a command line.

Procedure
1) Click "Execute application" in the "Menu" pane of the main screen. The "Execute
application" pane is displayed in the right-hand pane of the main screen.

4.1 Introduction
The Manual Agent Program is used to manually register measurement results obtained from
IRsolution programs to a specified database. This program reads specified measurement results
and registers them to a database. The registered measurement data can be viewed, edited or
printed at any time using Agent Manager.

This program executes additional data processing when measurement data is registered to a
database. This program compresses files automatically, such as data files.

Compressed files can be extracted using Agent Manager. They can be reregistered to a database
using the Manual Agent Program, after recalculation by the IRsolution program.
In IRsolution, a data file is compressed and saved with its filename and folder name during a
measurement process. If a compressed data file is decompressed and saved to a different folder,
recalculation may be prevented.

4.2 Main Screen


The following shows the IRsolution Manual Agent window, used to perform various functions.

The menu bar provides access to menu commands as follows.
1) [File] menu
[Login] A login is used to identify a user.
[Logout] A logout is to exit a log-in state.
[Select Database] Select a database, add it to a list, or delete it form to the list.
[Properties] View information on a currently selected database, a cur-
rently selected file or a user who is logging in.
[Exit] Exit the Manual Agent program.

2) [Entry] menu
[Entry...] Register a measurement file to a database as a newly created
data.
[Reentry...] Register a measurement file decompressed in Agent Manager
to a database again.
[Wizard...] Use the wizard to store measurement data in a database after
selecting a measurement data file in the File List pane.
[Add Compression Files...] Specify the files to be compressed, other than those specified
in “ Compressed File Settings."

3) [View] menu
[Toolbar] Show or hide the toolbar.
[Status Bar] Show or hide the status bar.
[Details Information] Display detail information on the file selected in the upper-half
pane of the main screen.

[Update] Show the latest folder contents.

4) [Tools] menu
[Configuration...] Specify the configuration settings of Manual Agent.
[Edit Reentry List...] Delete unwanted items from a Reentry List.

[About Manual Agent...] Show the "About Manual Agent" message box.

Functions (Toolbar)
The toolbar buttons are available as follows.
1) [Login] A login is used to identify a user.
2) [Logout] A logout is used to exit a log-in state without exiting the program.
3) [Select] Select a database, add it to a list, or delete it form to the list.
4) [Entry] Register a measurement file to a database as a newly created data.
5) [Reentry] Register a measurement file decompressed in Agent Manager to a
database again.
6) [Wizard] Use the wizard to store measurement data in a database after se-
lecting a measurement data file in the File List pane.
7) [Details] Display detail information on the file selected in the upper-half pane
of the main screen.

Functions (Status Bar)


1) Status indicator
This indicates the operating status of this software as follows.
“Login” The system is logged in, without measurement data being read.
“Processing” The system is logged in, with measurement data being read.
“Logout” The system is not logged in.

2) Login user name indicator


This indicates the name and login ID of a user who is currently logged in.

3) Additional file number indicator


This indicates the number of compressed files added. For detailed information, see “4.10
Adding or Deleting Compression Files."

4) Database name indicator


This indicates the name of a currently selected database.

The "File List" pane displays a list of files to be saved to databases.

1) Double-click the icon for Manual Agent to open the main screen.

2) Select optional files and register them manually.

3) Click the [Exit] button to close the main screen and exit the Manual Agent Program.

4.3 Logging In
A login is used to identify a user. The [Login] menu command is executed from "Logout" status.
The current user must log out before another user can log in.

- The "Login" dialog box -

Procedure
1) Click the [Login] button in the toolbar, or click the [Logout] menu command in the menu
bar. The "Login" dialog box is displayed.
2) Type a login ID and password.
3) Click the [OK] button.
A user can log in to the system if the login ID and password entered meet the following two
conditions.
a) The login ID and password entered match the ones registered to Agent Manager.
b) The Run Agent/GW (Gateway) permission has been granted to the user.
If these conditions are not met, another login attempt should be made from the beginning.
Clicking the [Cancel] button aborts a login attempt.
[NOTE] Since the database chosen as data registration is memorized for every user, the user who
logs-in for the first time cannot do registration of data, and a registration menu does not
become effective, unless newly choosing a database.

About User Permissions


The user permissions are assigned to each login ID in Agent Manager. The operations that a user
may perform depend on degrees of user permissions. The user permissions include the
following.
1) Run Agent/GW permission
“ON” A user can log in.
“OFF” A user cannot log in.
2) Property/Option permission
“ON” A user can use the "Configuration" and "Reentry List" dialog boxes.
“OFF” A user cannot use the "Configuration" and "Reentry List" dialog boxes.
3) Database Management permission
“ON” A user can use the [Add to list] and [Delete from list] buttons in the "Select
Database" dialog box.
“OFF” A user cannot use the [Add to list] and [Delete from list] buttons in the "Select
Database" dialog box.

4.4 Logging Out


A logout exits the "Login" state.
The [Logout] menu command is executed from login status.

Procedure
Click the [Logout] button in the toolbar, or click the [Logout] menu command in the menu bar.

4.5 Selecting a Database


The "Select Database" dialog box is used to select a database, add it to a list or delete it from the
list. The use of the [Add to list] and [Delete from list] buttons requires the Database
Management permission.

Functions
1) The [Add to list] button
This button adds the selected database to a list. This button opens the "Setting of database
connection" dialog box.

The below function and operation are vary with the kind of the database.
Clicking the [Cancel] button aborts the execution of the [Add to list] command.

Linking a New Database


(about MDB database)

1. Select the [MDB] option button in “Setting of database connection.”

2. Click the MDB file selection button. Select the desired MDB file and click [Open].

3. The [Next] button is enabled when and MDB file is selected. Click the [Next] button
to continue.

4. Click the [Check the connection] button.


If a password has been set in MDB database, input the password before clicking the
[Check the connection] button.

5. If there the connection settings are normal, the [Finish] button is enabled. Click the
[Finish] button.

6. A dialog box prompting for a comment is displayed. Type a comment, if any, and
click the [OK] button.

(About SQL Server/Oracle database)


1. Choose [SQL Server/MSDE] or [Oracle ] from the option buttons of “Setting of
database connection” dialog box.

SQL Server/MSDE
Enter the database name in the “DataBase” input box. (The database name is the
same as the name of the SQL server database when it was created.)
Oracle
Input the service name set up in the client PC.

2. Enter the machine name or IP address of the server where the SQL server database is
stored. Click the [Next] button.

3. For an SQL server / MSDE database, the following screen is displayed. For an Oracle
database, continue at step 4 of this procedure.

Choose and set a protocol for the SQL server. Click the [Next] button.

4. Log in to the SQL Server, based on the setting made in the previous steps. Define a
login ID and password. The login ID and password should be defined when making
the SQL Server settings. For any questions, contact the system administrator.
Enter an ID and a password, then click the [Check the connection] button.

5. If the connection is normal, the [Finish] button is enabled. Click the [Finish] button.

6. A dialog box prompting for a comment is displayed. Type a comment, if any, and
click the [OK] button.

2) The [Delete from list] button


This button deletes the selected database from a list. This button opens the "Delete" dialog
box. Clicking the [Cancel] button aborts the deletion.

3) The [OK] button


This button selects the database to be used, and closes the "Select Database" dialog box.

4) The [Cancel] button


This button closes the "Select Database" dialog box without saving settings made in the
dialog box.

5) The [Help] button


This button opens a help file.

Procedure
1) Choose [File] → [Select Database], or click the [Select] button in the toolbar. The "Select
Database" dialog box is displayed.

2) Select the database to be used.

3) Click the [OK] button. The selected database is identified as a destination database. Clicking
the [Cancel] button clears the selection.

4) The "Select Database" dialog box closes, returning to the main screen.

4.6 Viewing Properties


The [Properties] command is used to view information on a currently selected database, a
currently selected file or a user who is currently logged in.

Functions
1) The "Database" tab
This sheet displays information on the destination database selected in the "Select Database"
dialog box.

2) The "User" tab


This sheet displays information on a user who is currently logged in.

3) The "File" tab


This sheet displays information on a currently selected file.

Procedure
1) Choose [File] → [Properties] to open the "Properties" dialog box. Click any of the
"Database," "User" and "File" tabs to open its sheet

2) Click the [OK] button. The "Properties" dialog box closes, returning to the main screen.

4.7 Exiting a Program


The [Exit] menu command exits the Manual Agent Program.

Choose [File] → [Exit] to exit the Manual Agent Program.

4.8 Registering to a Database


Measurement data contained in a file selected in the "File List" pane is registered to a database.

Functions
1) [Entry...]
This command is used to register a measurement file to a database as a newly created data.

2) [Reentry...]
This command is used to register a measurement file decompressed in Agent Manager to a
database. The original data contained in a database remains intact, and the measurement data
is registered as updated data in the database.
[NOTE] • When updating a database, select the database that contains the original data.
• Pressing the ESC key when making an entry to a database will abort the
registration to the database.

Procedure (Entry)
1) Select the database where measurement data will be stored.

2) Select the measurement data to be registered.

3) Choose [Entry] → [Entry...] in the menu bar, or click the [Entry] button in the toolbar.

4) If the "Confirm database at registration" check box is ON, the "Database upload
confirmation" message box is displayed on the screen. Click the [Yes] button to make an
entry, or click the [No] button to abort an entry. If the "Confirm database at registration"
check box is OFF, the "Confirm database at registration" message box does not appear on the
screen. An entry is automatically made.

Procedure (Reentry)
1) Select the database where measurement data will be stored.

2) Select the measurement data to be registered.

3) Choose [Entry] → [Reentry...] in the menu bar, or click the [Reentry] button in the toolbar.

4) Ensure that information on the data file is shown in the " Reentry List" dialog box, and click
the [OK] button to update the database. Clicking the [Cancel] button aborts the update.
Clicking the [Help] button opens a help file.

5) If the "Confirm database at registration" check box is ON, the database upload confirmation
message box is displayed on the screen. Click the [Yes] button to display the "Reentry List"
dialog box, or click the [No] button to abort.

If the "Confirm database at registration" check box is OFF, the "Reentry List" dialog box is
displayed immediately. For the procedure to make the setting in the "Confirm database at
registration" check box, see “4.14 Options."

4.9 Registration Using the Wizard


This section describes using the wizard to store measurement data in a database after selecting a
measurement data file in the File List pane.

Functions
For details about the database registration functions, see “4.8 Registering to a Database."

Procedure
1) Select a destination database.
For a procedure to select a database, see “4.5 Selecting a Database."

2) Select a data file to be registered.


For a procedure for selecting a data file, see “4.2 Main Screen."
[NOTE] If multiple files are selected, the Entry Wizard in database registration cannot be
used.

3) Click [Wizard] in the [Entry] menu, or click the [Wizard] button in the toolbar.

4) Select the method of registering measurement data in the database.


Select the [Entry] or [Reentry] option button and click the [Next] button.
The lower part of the "Entry Wizard" dialog box may be disabled if the [Reentry] option
button is not available for database update.

5) Select additional file s to compress.


After selecting additional files, click the [Next] button.

6) Ensure that all the selected files are correct.


If the current selections are correct, click the [Finish] button. All selected files in the list are
compressed and stored in the database. To deselect a selected file, click the [Back] button to
return to the previous screen.

4.10 Adding or Deleting Compression Files


To compress files other than those specified in “4.16.2 Compressed File Settings ", specify the
files in the "Add Compression Files" dialog box.

Functions
1) The [Add] button
This button adds selected files to an archive file list. The selected files are displayed in the
"Add compression file s list" section.

2) The [Delete] button


This button deletes selected files from an archive file list.

3) The "Database entry after clear compression list" check box


ON A listing of selected files, displayed in the "Add compression file s list" section, will
be cleared each time measurement data is stored in a database.
OFF A listing of selected files, displayed in the "Add compression file s list" section, will
not be cleared each time measurement data is stored in a database.

Procedure
1) Choose [Entry] → [Add Compression Files]. The "Add Compression Files" dialog box is
displayed.

2) Specify files to be added or deleted.

3) Clicking the [OK] button adds or deletes the selected files and returns to the main screen.
Clicking the [Cancel] button aborts the addition or deletion. Clicking the [Help] button
opens the help file.

4.10.1 Adding Files


The "Add File" dialog box is used to specify the files to be compressed.

Procedure
1) Click the [Add] button in the "Add Compression Files" dialog box. The "Add File" dialog
box is displayed.

2) Specify the file to be added.

3) Click the [Open] button. The selected file is registered and displayed in the "Add
Compression list" section. Clicking the [Cancel] button aborts the file selection.

4.10.2 Deleting Files


The files in the "Add compression file s list" section are selected and deleted using this
procedure.

Procedure
1) Specify the file to be deleted from the "Add compression files list" section.

2) Click the [Delete] button. The selected file is deleted from a listing in the "Add compression
files list" section.

[NOTE] Once deleted, files cannot be added to archive files the next time measurement data
is stored in a database.

4.11 Toolbar and Status Bar


The [Toolbar] and [Status Bar] commands are used to show or hide the toolbar and the status
bar.

Choose [View] and click [Toolbar] to show or hide the toolbar.

4.12 Details Information


The [Details Information] command is used to display detail information on the file selected in
the upper right pane of the main screen.

Procedure
1) Select the file to view its detail information from the "File List" pane of the main screen.

2) Choose [View] → [Details Information]. The detail information on the selected file is
displayed in the "Details Information" pane of the main screen.
[NOTE] A maximum of 256 characters can be used for the comment that is displayed in the
detail information field.

4.13 Reentry List


The "Reentry List" dialog box displays a listing of measurement data decompressed in Agent
Manager. The measurement data displa yed in the dialog box can be stored in a database by
updating.

Procedure
1) Choose [View] → [Reentry List]. The "Reentry List" dialog box is displayed.

2) Check a listing of measurement data decompressed in Agent Manager. Clicking the [Help]
button opens a help file.

3) Click the [Close] button to close the "Reentry List" dialog box.

4.14 Options
The [Options] command is used to select option items.

1) The "Font" section
This section is used to select a font. See “4.14.1 Selecting a Font."

2) The "Show selected folder" check box


This check box is used to specify whether to show the "Folder List" pane.
ON The "Folder List" pane is displayed on the main screen.
OFF The "Folder List" pane dose not is displayed on the main screen.

3) The "Automatically select last used database at login " check box
This check box is used to specify whether to select a database automatically at a login. The
database to be selected at a next login is the one that was previously selected under the login
ID entered at the last login.

4) The "Confirm database at registration" check box


This check box is used to specify whether to display a confirmation message box each time
data is stored in a database by adding and updating.
ON The database upload confirmation message box is displayed on the screen.
OFF The database upload confirmation message box does not appear on the screen.

Functions
1) The [Change] button
This button is used to select a font.

2) The [Help] button


This button is used to open the help file.

Procedure
1) Choose [View] → [Options]. The "Options" dialog box is displayed.

4.16 Environment Settings


This section describes how to make the configuration settings. The use of this feature requires
the Properties/Option permission.

3) "Execute application" Specify applications, so that they can automatically start
after data is stored in a database.
4) "Instrument name" Specify the device name.

4.16.1 Configuration Settings


The "Configuration" pane is used to make the settings for system configuration and login
methods.

Configuration: Option items


1) The "Add files to a compression file " check box
This check box specifies whether to allow addition of compressed files as described in “4.10
Adding or Deleting Archive Files." For details about setting options, see “4.10 Adding or
Deleting Compression Files."
ON Allows a user to add or delete compressed files.
OFF Disallows a user to add or delete compressed files.

2) The "Login" section


The "Login" section is used to specify a login method. For the login procedure, see “4.3
Logging In."
a) The "Normal login" radio button
If on, an automatic logging in attempt is not made at a boot-up. The "Login" dialog box
displays the user ID entered at the last login.
b) The "Auto login" radio button
If on, an automatic logging in attempt is made at a boot-up. If checked, specify a login ID
and password. The login ID and password must match the ones registered to Agent
Manager.

Procedure
1) Click "Configuration" in the left-hand pane of the "Configuration" dialog box. The
"Configuration" section is displayed in the right-hand pane.

2) Select the desired setting options.

3) Click the [OK] button to apply all the selected setting options. The "Configuration" dialog
box closes. Clicking the [Cancel] button aborts all the changes made and closes the
[Configuration] dialog box.

4.16.2 Compressed File Settings


The "Select compression files" pane is used to specify the type of compressed files that are
created when data is registered.

Option items
1) The "Select compression files" pane
This section specifies the type of files to be compressed.
“Data file s”

2) The "Show compression progress bar" check box


This check box specifies whether a progress meter is displayed during file compression.
ON The progress meter is displayed.
OFF The progress meter is not is displayed.

Purpose
Making settings for compressed files is necessary for the following reasons:
a) To ensure that only the necessary (quantitative results) are entered in the database.

b) To ensure that the raw data files are compressed only if the file size is large.

Procedure
1) Click "Select compression files" in the left-hand pane of the "Configuration" dialog box.
The "Select compression files" section is displayed in the right-hand pane.

2) Select the desired setting options.

3) Click the [OK] button to apply all the selected options. The "Configuration" dialog box
closes. Clicking the [Cancel] button aborts all the changes made and closes the
[Configuration] dialog box.

4.16.3 Executing an Application


The "Execute application" pane is used to specify applications that automatically start after data
is stored in a database.

Options items
1) The "Execute after database registration" check box
This check box specifies whether to start an application automatically after storing data in a
database (to send e-mail, or print operation results, etc.).
ON An application will automatically start. If checked, specify the name of the applica-
tion to be to started, the name of the output folder where the sample information file
will be stored and set the "Add a sample information file name in the command line"
check box as described below.
OFF An application will not automatically start.

2) The "Add a sample information file name in the command line " check box
If the name of a sample information file is written after the end of a command line, the
sample information file is registered to an application that will automatically start.
ON The name of a sample information file is added to the end of a command line.
OFF The name of a sample information file is not added to the end of a command line.

Functions
1) The Program file name text box
In this text box, specify the full path name of the application to start automatically. Clicking
the [Browse] button displays the Application Selection dialog box. Select an application
name and click the [OK] button. The selected application name is registered. Clicking the
[Cancel] button aborts the selection.

2) The "Sample information export folder" text box


Specify the full path name of the destination folder where the sample information file (a text
file that is made available for an application) will be stored. Clicking the [Browse] button
displays the "Browse for Folder" dialog box. Select an output-folder name and click the
[OK] button. The selected folder name is registered. Clicking the [Cancel] button aborts the
selection.

4.16.4 Instrument name


The "Instrument name" pane is used to specify the device name.

Option Items
1) The "Reference to IRsolution settings " check box
This check box determines whether the instrument name of the IRsolution's data file is used.
ON Use the default device name of the IRsolution's data file automatically. The
instrument name cannot be input in the "Name" text box.
OFF Use specific name designated by the “Name” text box.

2) The "Name" section


This section specifies the device name designated for this system, when the "Reference to
IRsolution settings" check box is OFF.

Procedure
1) Click "Instrument name" in the left-hand pane of the "Configuration" dialog box. The
"Instrument name" section is displayed in the right-hand pane.

2) Select the desired setting options.

3) Click the [OK] button to apply all the selected setting options. The "Configuration" dialog
box closes. Clicking the [Cancel] button aborts all the changes made and closes the
[Configuration] dialog box.

4.16.5 Operator
This pane is used to specify whether the currently logged in user or the operator specified in the
data file is used when data is registered to the database.

Options items
• Login User
The name of the user that is currently logged in is used when data is registered to a database.

• Operator in data file


The name of the operator specified in the data file is used when data is registered to a
database.

Procedure
1) Click "Operator " in the left-hand pane of the "Configuration" dialog box. The "Operator"
section is displayed in the right-hand pane.

2) Select the name to register to the database.

A.1 Compressed Files


When running IRsolution Automatic/Manual Agent Program, analysis data is stored in a
database, and files are compressed and saved in LHA format. The files created include data files
(*.SMF). These filenames are controlled using databases. The files can be viewed or
decompressed at any time by Agent Manager.
The following describes the names of storage folders and filename syntax.

Storage Folder
For an MDB format database, a folder having the database name (without its extension) is
created in the same folder as the database. Compressed files and Link files are stored in this
folder, not stored in the binary image field of a database.

Example: database = C:\Agent2\Shimadzu.mdb

C:\Agent2\Shimadzu\*.LZH → Compressed file

Compressed File Name (*.LZH)


A filename is automatically defined under the following conditions.

Filename = Computer name + Instrument number + Storage date + Serial number + “.LZH”

Computer name The name determined in the Properties settings on a network computer.
Instrument number The number 1.
Storage date YYMMDD, 6 characters, the date on which the file is registered on a database.
Serial number 4 numeric characters from 0000 to 9999 used for all Agent programs. The
number is incremented by 1 each time a file is registered on a database.

[CAUTION] Compressed files and object link files are identified and managed in accordance
with the above-mentioned filename by Agent Manager. Do not move, delete or
rename these filenames using Windows Explorer or other utilities programs. A
copy or backup of these files may be made. If these filenames are changed,
Agent Manager may not run properly. To copy, move, or delete files, use Agent
Manager.

A.3 Temporary Database


A temporary database is used to store data when the data cannot be stored in a specified database
for some reason. Its filename is TEMP_DT2.MDB, a Microsoft Access type database. It is
automatic ally created and stored in the setup folder during installation. Compressed files and
object link files are created in the temporary database using the same conditions as they would if
properly registered. For detailed information, see Database Information. Data contained in the
temporary database can be restored in Agent Manager. For data restoration, see the Agent
Manager Instruction Manual.

A.4 Log Database


A log database is used to store logs of operations performed by each user. It contains information
on user names and dates and times, descriptions of operations performed. The log information is
classified into two types, the data log accompanied by data and the system log (Log2.mdb)
storing logs related to the system.

Usually, two log databases, “Log2.mdb” and “Temp log2.mdb”, are automatically created in
Microsoft Access format in the folder specified during installation. If a common network system
is used, only “Log2.mdb” is created in the common folder. These databases can be used in all
types of Agent programs (Auto Agent, Manual Agent and Agent Manager).
If the system is in normal status, logs are stored in “Log2.mdb." However, if the log information
cannot be stored in “Log2.mdb” due to errors in the network, the log information is stored in a
spare log database “Temp log2.mdb.”

Structure of Log Databases (LOG2.MDB / TEMP_LOG2.MDB)


The system log database consists of one table shown below that contains one log per one record.
The data log storing processes related to data is contained in the database storing the sample
information. The table structure is similar to that shown below.

A.5 User Permissions


User permissions are used to identify users, and restrict the operations that users may perform.
The Automatic Agent/Manual Agent Program recognizes the following permissions granted to
users.

• Run Agent/GW Permission


This permission allows an authorized user to register analysis data in a database. A user not
having this permission cannot log in to the Automatic Agent Program, and may not perform
any operations.

• Option/Configuration Permission
This permission allows an authorized user to make changes to the settings of the Automatic
Agent Program. A user not having this permission cannot use a menu of lists, but can register
data on a database at a given setting.

• Database Management Permission


This permission allows an authorized user to make changes to the settings for database
management: whether to allow or disallow use of databases. If a user not having this
permission logs in to the system, the [Add to list] and [Delete from list] buttons in the "Select
Database" dialog box are disabled, preventing the addition or deletion of a database.

A.6 Instrument Configuration File


The instrument configuration file is used by Agent Manager and the IRsolution Automatic
Agent Program. It contains information on the maximum number of analysis devices connected,

Agent Manager Text Editor. Editing this file incorrectly will prevent the programs from running
properly. Do not make any change to the settings other than the ones described below.

This section describes how to use the Agent Automatic Print program, an external application
for the Automatic Agent/Manual Agent programs. This program makes it easier to perform print
jobs.
This program is an external application designed for printing registered information on a default
printer when data is registered to a database using the automatic entry or manual entry features
provided by the CLASS-Agent software. This program can run on a personal computer that
supports the Automatic Agent/Manual Agent programs of CLASS-Agent software. This
program cannot be used on a client PC used for other management/analysis.

B.1.1 Initial Settings


Make the necessary initial settings to use the Agent Automatic Print program. Use Windows
Explorer to start the “Agent_pr2.exe” program file from the CLASS-Agent installation directory.
After that program starts, a dialog box is displayed, as shown below. In the dialog box, make the
settings for print jobs. These setting items are saved to the file named Agent_pr2.ini, which in
turn will be used when the Agent Automatic Print program is started during automatic or manual
entry. To make changes to the print settings, follow the same procedure as for making initial
settings.

from the CLASS-Agent installation directory using Windows Explorer. After the program starts,

file and click the [Print] button to start printing. Registered information is printed on the default
printer specified on the personal computer. Paper size and print orientation are determined by

This program is an external application designed for addressing and sending e-mail to the default
receivers specified when data is registered to a database using the automatic Agent features or
manual Agent features provided by the CLASS-Agent software. This program can run on a
personal computer that supports the Automatic Agent/Manual Agent programs of
CLASS-Agent software. This program cannot be used on a client PC used for other
management/analysis.

B.2.1 Initial Settings


To use the Agent Mail Carrier program, initial settings must be made. Start the “Agent_ml2.exe”
program from the CLASS-Agent installation directory using Windows Explorer. After the
program starts, a dialog box is displayed, as shown below. In the dia log box, make the settings
for essential items, such as mail server information, e-mail information, and receiver’s address
information. These settings are saved to the file named Agent_ml2.ini that in turn will be used
when the Agent Mail Carrier program is started during the automatic or manual Agent process.
To make a change to the initial settings, follow the same procedure as for making initial settings.

This section describes how to open a spectrum file. If a data file is open, the on-screen
contents will be cleared. After a spectrum file is opened, a spectrum is displayed in the
client area. The size of a spectrum image is adjusted to the largest peak of the spectrum.
The horizontal axis is fixed.

Procedure
1) Choose [File] → [Open].

Click the Open button ( ) in the toolbar or press the Ctrl + O key as a keyboard
shortcut.

2) A dialog box opens, prompting for a filename. Select a spectrum file and click the
[Open] button.

The selected spectrum file is opened and its spectrum is displayed.

B.3.3.2 Conve rting to a META File


When a spectrum is displayed in the client area, it can be saved to Windows META
file format. A Windows META file is a standard image format for Microsoft
Windows. The image size is small because this is a vector format file. An image can
be enlarged or compressed without image degradation. META files can be read in
many applications.
Procedure
1) Choose [File] → [Save as (Metafile)].

Click the Save As button ( ) in the toolbar.


The "Save As" dialog box is displayed.

2) Specify a filename and click the [Save] button.

[NOTE] To save a spectrum, adjust the image size and font size. This step is de-

B.3.3.11.4 Using the Metafile Sheet

Specify an image size that is applicable to the creation of a META file. Adjust the
image size to the screen size if displaying a META file. Adjust the image size to the
resolution and number of pixels per inch of the printer to produce a printout.
Specifying a larger value in the text box stores the image in greater detail. This may
cause an image to be larger than the screen size when the image is copied to another
word processing or spreadsheet application. The larger the value entered, the more

Selecting Fonts for a META File


In general, points are used to specify a font size. Print fonts are printed on a printer at
the rate of 1/72 inch per point. When screen fonts are displayed, their absolute sizes
are adjusted in proportion to a screen size. For this reason, a DPI (dot per inch) value
is used to maintain the integrity of the fonts. This DPI value varies with the Windows
settings. When a data file is converted to a META file, font size is adjusted to the
DPI value of the printer. This requires that the printer be connected, otherwise a DPI
value for screen fonts is used.
If a META file becomes larger, screen fonts that are displayed become smaller.
Increase the point size in the font size setting for the META file. The screen fonts are
displayed smaller on a screen in another application.
A DPI value should be determined after repeated trial and error in creating many
META files (or copying META files to the clipboard).
