GRAMMAR

Adjectives and adverbs

Remember that adjectives describe nouns, and adverbs describe verbs. In English adjectives
are usually SINGULAR and go before the noun.

Example: She is an efficient receptionist.

Adverbs may go in different positions, but they go after an auxiliary verb and in front of a main
verb if they are adverbs of frequency.

Example: I always deal with the check-in clients first

Adverbs of manner go after the main verb.

Example: She works very well.

Remember also that although most adverbs are formed by adding ly to the adjective
(interesting – adjective; interestingly – adverb), some are IRREGULAR (well, hard, fast, late).

Example: She played the clarinet beautifully

She played well.
