What is lesson planning?
• It refers to the various preparations that a teacher makes
for his/her lessons. The preparations may include such
things like lesson plans and lesson notes
• Kyriako (1998) explained that, a lesson plan is a frame
work used by teachers to guide learners in the classroom
or a clear outline of classroom activities that have been
planned to take place within an allocated time.
Importance of lesson planning
• A lesson planning helps outline of important
information that has to be covered during teaching and
learning period
• It enable the teacher to teach in a planned manner as
the information will be sequentially arranged
• It helps the teacher and supervisor asses the success
and failures of a lesson, weather the lesson has achieved
its intended goal
• It boosts the confidence of the teacher in lesson
delivery which contributes to the success of a lesson
Lesson planning
A lesson plan should contain:

•Evidence of use of feedback from previous
self evaluation.

What is classroom management?
Classroom management refers to
the wide variety of skills and
techniques that teachers use to keep
students organized, orderly, focused,
attentive, on task, and academically
productive during a class.
Classroom management techniques
• Entry Routine: is a technique in which teachers
establish a daily routine that begins soon as students
enter the classroom. The benefit of it is that it can help
the teacher grasp the students attention from start.
• Do Now: is a brief written activity that students are
given as soon as they arrive in the classroom. This
technique is intended to get students settled, focused,
productive, and prepared for instruction as quickly as
possible
• Tight Transitions: transition routines that
students learn and can execute quickly and
repeatedly without much direction from a
teacher.
• Seat Signals is a technique in which
students use nonverbal signals while seated
to indicate that they need something. It
helps to minimize disruptions during class
• Nonverbal Intervention is when teachers
establish eye contact or make gestures that alert
students. The technique helps teachers
efficiently and silently manage student
behaviour without disrupting a lesson.
• Do It Again is used when students do not
perform a basic task correctly and the teacher
asks them to do it again the correct way. This
technique establishes and reinforces consistent
expectations for quality work.
