Objectives:
SWBAT ASK & ANSWER basic questions when irst meeting people.
SWBAT USE 9 common question words that are used to meet people.
Materials: chalkboard, handouts, recording, speaker, number cards

Intro Take attendance


(10 min) Pass out number cards & begin review
8:00-8:10
Listening T plays the recording for introductions two times and allows students to
(20 min) listen with no task.
8:10-8:30 T plays the recording again and the Ss write in the name of each student on
the correct picture.
(Burns’ activity) Close Listening: T plays the recording 2 more times and Ss listen for the
speci ic info on p. 16 (1 more play for part 1 & one more play for part 2)
Question Words T goes through the question words and gives extra examples for each one.
(20 min) (10 min)
8:30-8:50 Have Ss go through the matching section and match each question with the
correct answer. (5 min) Check the answers as a class using number cards.
Have Ss go through part 2 and rewrite the questions in correct order.
Pair work T has Ss line up in 2 even lines. Number the Ss off 1-6 and have one line
(15 min) move while the other line stays in the same place. Then Ss ask their partner
8:50-9:05 the question and their partner answers. T will tell when to move.
Vocabulary builder Ss will read through the list and mark whether the T or the S says each
(20 min) statement. Then Ss will check answers with a partner. (10 min)
9:05-9:25 Then Ss will cover part 1 and match the sentences together in part 2. Then
Ss will check their answers using part 1. (10 min)
Vocab builder cont. Ss will complete the conversations using sentences in part 1. ( 10 min)
(20 min) Work with a partner and ask and answer the questions from exercise 3. (10
9:25-9:45 min)
HW Work with a partner:
(10 min) Send a recording where you are interviewing another student. Ask them
9:45-9:55 these things:
1. Their name.
2. Their age.
3. Their hometown.
4. Their job.
5. Their favorite sport.

Each S should send a recording where they are the interviewer. So each S
should send a recording while interviewing their partner and their partner
should send a recording while interviewing them.
