PRACTICE:
A. Give 5 of the popular brand name that you’ve known. Draw their logo
B. Create your own brand name and your own logo with your chosen product.

MI-KI means "microcomputer keys". The word "microcomputer" is used to describe different forms of
devices, including desktop computers, laptops, notebook computers, and even mobile phones. The "key"
would refer to the keyboard, which is used to instruct the machine and which we used to get some work done.
MI-KI works similarly to a keyboard in this aspect. People will be able to use the service to get answers to their
computers and printing-related questions and services. To give it a Filipino vibe, the spelling of “key” was
replaced by ‘ki”. The name is pronounced "mai-ki," and when read aloud, MI-KI sounds like "my key." This
relates to how the service can be the key that enables people to get through the door of answers and
convenience. This business is generally a Japanese-inspired shop, which explains why the name of the shop
sounds like a Japanese name. The service's name sounds like a person's name to give it an approachable and
welcoming vibe. Customers would feel as if they are interacting with a person rather than a group of
individuals, which will make them feel more at ease.

Since lowercase letters are viewed as more relaxed, approachable, and imaginative when used, the MI-
KI's operators used them in their logo. It helps viewers or clients feel more linked to the service, which is what
the service's owner seeks. It's also related to creativity and a forward-thinking outlook. The hyphen in the logo
reflects the bonds that will be created between clients and owners. MI-KI would not only support others but
also act as a connection for many people. In the literature, the colon suggests that there is something more to
know about the owner and the employees. They are not a computer shop; they can also support others in
their way. Additionally, colons can be found on the screen when displaying the computer's disk drives or
storage. This means that MI-KI behaves similarly to a disk drive or storage facility from which users can access
data or information. The primary colors were selected to offer options for any logo variations.

Even though mobile phones are extremely popular nowadays, the computer still plays a huge role in
our society. The computer has been largely used in organizations, companies, schools, and other things.
However, not all people can afford to purchase a computer. And even if someone has a computer, it does not
guarantee that they are tech-savvy. When problems arise they might not be able to fix them immediately. This
is the reason for the creation of this service, MI-KI: Computer and Printing Service. This service aims to help by
providing computer services, like computer repair, applications installations, software updates, encoding, and
some computer parts. Additionally, this service will offer printing services too, such as clothes printing,
tarpaulin making, laminating, photo developing, and possibly merchandise making. Poster template editing is
one of the services too since the owner has fair experience in graphic designing.

To further accommodate the customer’s needs, MI-KI will also offer a cafe and fast food/ restaurant
service. The menu would be a combination of Filipino dishes and Japanese dishes, along with some American
foods such as hamburgers, fries, etc. This service will give convenience to the customers when they get hungry
in wither using the computer shop or by waiting for their requests and inquiries to finish. Furthermore, this
service is also open to other people even if they won’t inquire about computer and printing services. The
building of the business is two stories, the first floor being the space for the cafe and restaurant and the top
floor for the computer and printing services.

This is the logo that represents the Filipino side of the services that MI-KI offers. It is simple yet
meaningful since Baybayin is one of our distinctions.
This logo will represent the Japanese side. It looks like a traditional house since one of the aims
of MI-KI is to give coziness to the customers just like what they would feel when they are at home. If
rotated it will show ‘MK:” in an abstract which stands for MI-KI.

C. TIME TO REFLECT:

I thought that brand names and logos are only used for the product to be known.
Little did I know that there is more to it. My knowledge about brand names and logos increased upon
our discussion today.

I learned that a brand name is just like a person’s name and the logo is like the
person’s face. The names build an identity with which people can connect, build expectations and let
consumers know what they can expect. They've got a lot of influence. As far as a brand or product
name is concerned, Nielsen's analysis suggests that it may be one of the "most important assets of a
company". They also believe that brands are motivated by the reputation, consistency and desires of
consumers. We, humans, have our own name. It becomes our identity. It is what people call us and
possibly remember when they hear that name. However, there are times where we have the same
names as other people. This is where our faces, our logo play an important role. It sets another unique
identity, another distinction, that will differentiate us from others.

The logo is vital to your company as it transmits ownership, efficiency and values.
You have printed it in the mind of your customers, merchandise, business cards, website and social
media. Your logo will probably be one of the first encounters with your organization and will give you
an initial impression, display quality service and visually articulate your goal. It attracts attention, gives
a good initial impression, builds the identity of your brand, is unforgettable, distinguishes you from the
competition, promotes the brand's loyalty and your customer expects it to do so.

According to scientists, most people tend to forget names almost immediately, but
they still can remember the visual, the face of a person they recently met. This is the same for the logos
which adds to its importance. A well-designed logo creates trust and keeps people around. Tell future
clients who you are, what you are doing and how it works. It communicates that you do a good job to
people without previous knowledge or experience of your business. If your logo seems unprofessional,
people will probably wonder how much your goods and services can be delivered.

For most of us, we believe that first impressions last. Whether it is a person or a
brand. So it is important to make that first impression something memorable, will attract a lot of
people, presentable and worthy of other people’s time. There will also be a time where we will have to
change our identity, our qualities. It is possibly because the brand name just isn’t cutting to the
expectation of the customers. Just like humans, sometimes we need to change something about our
life. But it does not mean we have to force ourselves to be what others want. Sometimes going against
other people’s want will make us stand out and thus makes us stronger.
