Informative Speech Outline
SPECIFIC PURPOSE: The purpose of my speech is to inform audience about ways and
techniques of stress management.
INTRODUCTION: Our life is like a roller coaster ride full of ups-downs and twists and turns.
Sometimes we find ourselves enjoying at the peak and all twists and turns left us feeling giddy
but sometimes the way from top of the track to the lower track is not very pleasing for us and
left us feeling down and nauseous. And In life like a roller coaster ride we cannot find a way out
of the ride even if we are feeling nauseous or down. This feeling where you cannot find a way
out of your problems is named as “stress”. The kind of stress I will be talking about today is
“negative stress”. This negative stress or distress effects our /mental, physical and emotional
well-being.
The reason I thought to speak on this particular topic today in front of you all is because like
every human being I have also encountered with many situations that stressed me out to the
point where I could not function. Especially in the last few months I felt like I was stuck in a dark
endless tunnel with no way out of it. All the pressure clearly affected my life as a student, it
affected my grades and eventually I dropped the semester because I could not find any other
solution. So today in my speech I am going to talk about how you all can manage a stressful
situation in your student life.
CENTRAL IDEA: stress is a part of everyone’s life and it can be managed effectively by having
a positive attitude.
BODY OUTLINE:
I. There can be multiple reasons of stress and I want some of the people in my audience to
share with a stressful situation/incident that has affected your student life negatively.
A. (Listening to audience response)
II. As everyone has their own different reason of stress and there are multiple reasons of
stress in the same way there are different methods to overcome it. I am going to discuss
some of them which someone taught me and forced me to act upon them when I
desperately trying to overcome my stress and now I am going to talk about them with
you with hope that you will find them useful in the time of your need.
A. Find out the source of your stress. It is very important to find out the exact
reason of your stress otherwise you won’t be able to find a solution to overcome
it.
B. The ways you can find out the exact source of your stress are:
1. Journaling: write down everything which you think are putting pressure on
you in your daily life and effecting your studies. It will help you sort out your
thoughts and shortlist the actual reason.
2. Talking: sometimes we need to speak our concerns and problems out in
order to fully understand them. Have a talk with people you find comfortable
talking with and share your thoughts with them. It will result in either of two
things.
a. You will find out the reason on your own when you are telling them out
loud to someone
b. The other person will sort your thoughts out for you which will help you
finding out your exact source of stress.
C. Once you find out why you are being stressed, let those feeling out by doing
what you love to do. For example:
1. If you are into arts try to paint or sketch out your feelings. This is my personal
favorite thing to do and it helps me every time.
3. Incorporate exercise in your daily schedule. It is not only good for your
physical health but for mental health as well.
4. Develop a habit of expressing gratitude everyday either after waking up or
before going to bed. Make it a habit.
D. These are my ways to manage my stress and I would like to hear from all of you
the things you do to manage your stress in check.
Lastly, everyone perceive a situation differently and the way we perceive thing is the
way we react to it.
A. Try to find positivity in every situation even a little it will help you function
throughout your day. Whenever you feel like you are trying to find an easy way out
of the negative situation stop yourself and think about your end goal and tell
yourself that it is you who has to complete your work, sooner or later. So have faith
in yourself and complete your required task without delaying it.
1. Luca Modric once said “ there are ups and downs in life but whatever happens,
you have to believe in yourself”
CONCLUSION: in conclusion, if life make you go through its twists and turns it will also
provide you a map to go through them. If it will throw you in a dark tunnel it will also show you
how to find light in that tunnel. But it is you who have to read the map or use that light
effectively to find your way out and it is only possible if your perceive the map positively and
believe in yourself that no matter how much time it takes you will find the end of the tunnel.
