Methodology The SARS-CoV-2 virus Real Time RT-PCR is a molecular qualitative diagnostic test
intended to detect the presence of viral nucleic acid of SARS-CoV-2 by amplifying three
target genes of the virus to be detected and measured.
* An internal control is run with every sample to provide assurance that clinical specimens
are successfully amplified and detected.

Disclaimer The possibility of a false negative result should be considered in the context of a patient’s
recent exposures and the presence of clinical signs and symptoms consistent with
COVID-19; and should not be used on a sole basis for treatment or other patient’s
management decisions.
False negative results may occur if specimen is improperly collected, transported, or
handled. False negative results may also occur if amplification inhibitors are present in the
specimen or the amount of viral RNA is below the limit of detection.
An individual without symptoms of COVID-19 and who is not shedding SARS-CoV-2 virus
would expect to have a negative (not detected) result in this assay.
