Guidelines for Change of Programme

1. A student currently studying in a programme will normally not be allowed to change his
programme. However, under exceptional circumstances, a student may be allowed to
change his programme after approval.
2. A student can apply for the change of programme by submitting an application on the
prescribed application form (Annexure 1) to the Division of Academic Affairs.
3. Change of Programme will be done only once during the entire programme. For example: If
a student applies for a change of programme and it is approved and implemented, he cannot
apply for another change during the entire programme.
4. A non-refundable application processing fee of Rupees 1000/- will be payable along with the
application.
5. A student will be eligible to apply for change of programme, only if:
(a) there are seats available in the programme to which transfer is sought.
(b) the student fulfils all the requirements of admission including the marks requirement
prescribed by the University relating to the programme to which he/she wishes to transfer
Explanation: If a student is seeking transfer to 3rd term of B. Tech. CSE in the year
2008 then the applicant shall satisfy the eligibility criteria as was prescribed for this
batch of B. Tech. CSE at the time of admission i.e. in year 2007.
(c) the student is not or has never been under disciplinary probation.
(d) it does not involve the change of mode of education.
Explanation: Change of mode from regular to ODL / Part-Time or vice versa is not
allowed.
(e) the student is not an advanced standing student.
(f) the student is not a lateral entry student admitted in a standalone regular programme.
Explanation: A lateral entry student already admitted in a dual degree integrated
programme is allowed to change his higher degree option only. For example: a
student who was admitted in year 2008 as a lateral student in B.Tech – M.Tech is
eligible to apply for change of higher degree i.e. from M.Tech – MBA.
6. Change of programme may be allowed as per the following:
S. From a/an To a/an Status
No.
1 Pass Programme Pass Programme Allowed
2 Honours Programme Pass Programme Allowed
3 Honours Programme Honours Programme Allowed
4 International Programme Honours Programme Not Allowed
5 International Programme Pass Programme Not Allowed
6 Honours Programme International Programme Not Allowed
7 Pass Programme Honours Programme Not Allowed
8 Pass Programme International Programme Not Allowed
7. Student may be allowed to change the program with few backlogs depending on the
difference in the courses covered by such candidate in the previous programme of LPU.
Please Note: If a student has not passed (has an F or E grade) in any course in his/her
current programme which is required for the new programme (upto the point of time when
change of programme is being sought), such courses shall be considered as ‘backlog’
courses. If a student has not passed (has an F or E grade) in any course in his/her current
programme which is not required for the new programme (upto the point of time when
change of programme is being sought), such courses shall not be considered as ‘backlog’
courses. So, if the student is transferred to the new programme he/she need not re-register
or reappear (as required depending on the grade) in such courses as these will become
irrelevant for the degree to be awarded for the new programme.
8. In case a student is allowed to change to a new programme, the credits of only those
courses passed in the previous programme (programme from which the student is seeking
the change) will be transferred to the new programme that will be considered relevant to the
new programme by the Equivalence Committee. An undertaking (Annexure 4) regarding the
same will be obtained from the student at the time of application for change of programme.
In other words, If a student applies for a change of programme and it is approved and
implemented then the courses studied by him in his current programme which are not
relevant for the new programme will be deleted from his Academic Transcript. This may also
lead to decrease in CGPA.
9. The total number of students per programme entitled for change of programme should not
exceed 1% of the total strength of the programme from which the transfer is being sought.
10. Students will be allowed to change a programme after paying the prescribed ‘Change of
Programme’ fee. ‘Change of Programme Fee’ for Academic Session 2011-12 will be Rupees
5000/-.
11. If the term fee for the new programme is more than that of the current programme, the
cumulative fee difference (between new programme and current programme, for all the
term(s) till the change of programme is sought) is to be paid by the student at the time of
depositing the ‘Change of Programme Fee’ and in future such student will continue to pay
the fee as applicable to the new programme.
12. If the term fee for the current programme is more than that of the new programme, the
cumulative fee difference (between current programme and new programme) for all the
future terms is to be paid by the student at the time of depositing the ‘Change of Programme
Fee’ and fee of the new programme shall be applicable (for all future terms) to such students
in their new programme.
13. For the students admitted in dual degree integrated programme, the fee for higher degree
will be the fee applicable to that standalone higher degree programme in the year in which
such student took admission. In case such a higher degree programme was not being
offered as a standalone programme in the year in which student took admission in a dual
integrated programme, the fee applicable for higher degree shall be the fee of this
standalone programme in the next academic session.
For example: A student has taken admission in B.Tech – M.Tech in the year 2007, then the
fee of M.Tech applicable to such a student will be of the year 2007. In case M.Tech was not
offered in the year 2007 and was introduced in the year 2008, then the fee of M.Tech
applicable to such a student will be of the year 2008.
14. A student of dual degree integrated programme who has given his option to
continue/discontinue the pursuance of the higher degree, later on wishes to change his
option, then in such a case, the student has to apply for the change of programme.
All other conditions of ‘change of programme’ mentioned in these guidelines will be
applicable.
15. If a student of regular standalone programme opts for change of programme to a dual degree
integrated programme and his request for change of programme gets approved, then such
student will pay the fee for the higher degree in a dual degree integrated programme as per
the current fee structure (as applicable).
For example: A student who has taken admission in a regular standalone programme in the
year 2008 applies for change of programme to a dual integrated programme in the year
2011. If his request for change of programme gets approved, then such student will pay the
fee for the higher degree in a dual degree integrated programme as per the fee structure of
2011.
16. All the rules of new programme such as rules mentioned under head ‘Promotion to Next
Year’, ‘Minimum CGPA/Marks requirement for the award of degree’, Promotion Criteria in
Integrated / Integrated Dual degree programme’ shall be applicable to such students also. No
relaxation in the same shall be made.
17. Number of terms/years spent in the previous programme will be considered for the
calculation of maximum duration for the completion of new programme.
18. Change of programme may lead to extension in the time taken to complete the requirements
for the award of degree for the programme.
