CHAPTER 1- INTRODUCTION

1.1 GENERAL

The goal of this project is to measure the strength of concrete by incorporating polypropylene
fiber as well as dolomite powder into cement. Concrete is the most used construction material
throughout the world. Rather than existing as an independent material, concrete is a mix of
various materials. These materials include cement, water, fine aggregate and crushed stones
and gravels. The extensive use of concrete in the construction field has made it a material of
huge concern for engineers.

Polypropylene, also recognized as polypropylene, is a thermoplastic material used in a wide

range of applications. It's 100 percent synthetic fiber. It's around 80 percent propylene. The
polypropylene monomer is propylene. Propylene seems to be a bi-product of petroleum. It is
lower in quality than polyester. It can be used as plastic substitute. It comprises small
individual fibers which are uniformly distributed yet randomly positioned. Fibers involve
steel fibers, glass fibers, synthetic fabrics and natural fibers – each one gives concrete varying
properties. In addition, its character of fiber reinforced concrete varies with different types of
concrete, fiber materials, shape, delivery, orientation and density.

1.1.1 Purpose

The point of the project is to explain the impact of polypropylene and dolomite powder
on mechanical properties of concrete. The present analysis indicate that the usage of
polypropylene fiber and dolomite powder individually in concrete is beneficial , still no such
combination is yet worked on. But yet profitable results would surely come out by the
combination of polypropylene and dolomite powder. Polypropylene fibers are ideal for
building purposes. Because of their high tensile as well as pull out strength it is concluded that
shrinkage cracking can be reduced by enhancing the tensile capacity of fresh concrete to resist
the tensile stresses caused by the typical changes. Polypropylene fibers influence the different
properties of the concrete in a fresh and hardened condition, such as compressive strength,
tensile strength, flexural strength, variable properties, workability, creep strain, effects, and
crack prevention.

CHAPTER-2 NAME OF THE CHAPTER

2.1**first content of this chapter**

Vaganov V.et. al. (2016) conducted an experimental investigation on the Prospects for
effective use of dolomite in concrete composition to investigate the strength of concrete.
Percentages of dolomite powder used were of very small %. It was concluded that duration
and temperature are important factors of dolomite preparation.

Rational use of dolomite resources very closely corresponds to the conception of

sustainability and life cycle of building materials. The use of dolomite fines as a fine
component in modern concrete, it is confirmed that by-products of dolomite quarry may be
successfully used as micro-filler in self-compacted concrete, allowing achieving high
workable mix. Mix composition of lime with metakolin are summarized for each type of lime
four different proportions of metakaolin were added 0%, 5%, 10%, 20% with the ratio of 1:2 .
