Mechanical System Design Project (Me 4131) : Design of E.O.T Crane

The document describes the design of an EOT crane mechanical system project. It includes sections on the design of various crane components like the trolley, main girder, side truss, horizontal truss, end girder, and gantry girder. Key contributions by the student include calculations for shear forces and bending moments in beams, design of intermediate stiffeners, dead load analysis and design of horizontal truss members, and calculations for the end girder and gantry girder. The crane has a capacity of 55/15 tons for main/auxiliary functions and a span length of 22 meters.

GIVEN DATA
Crane capacity = 55/15 tons (main/auxiliary)

Span length = 22 m

Width w = 2.2 m
Trolley structure
Mounting details on trolley structures
1. Crane gear box with shaft and coupling for trolley travel mechanism = 759.733 kg
2. Brake for trolley travel mechanism = 98.27 kg
3. Motor for trolley travel mechanism = 374 kg
4. Motor for main hoisting mechanism = 1285.533 kg
5. Floating shaft for main hoisting = 117.33 kg
6. Brake for main hoisting = 350.53 kg
7. Gear box for main hoisting = 3138.67 kg
8. Rope drum for main hoisting = 1776.867 kg
9. Equaliser block for main hoisting = 327.067 kg
10. Plumber block for main hoisting = 210.467 kg For auxiliary hoisting mechanism
11. Gear box = 1326 kg
12. Rope drum = 816 kg
13. Plumber block = 63.75 kg
14. Motor = 879.75 kg
15. Floating shaft with coupling = 127.5 kg
16. Brake = 230.25 kg
17. Equalizer block = 76.5 kg
18. Tension in rope round rope drum of main hoist = 43312.5kg
19. Tension in wire rope around the equalizer block of main hoist = 143375 kg
20. Tension in wire rope around the equalizer block of auxiliary hoist = 10500 kg
21.Tension in rope around the rope drum of auxiliary hoist = 5250 kg
DESIGN OF MAIN GIRDER:
1. Moving Loads: - Two wheel loads of the trolley each of ‘P’ equal to 23000kg separated by 2.2
m wheel base, moving from one end to other.
2. Dead loads: -
(a)Uniformly distributed load
i. Self-weight of girder: -
Empirical relation, G (main) = 10 x Q x (L-5) = 9350 Kg
ii. Half of self-weight of the horizontal truss as well as platform truss: -
W = 0.5 x G (main) / 6 = 1559 Kg
iii. Half of self-weight of cross bracing web = 0.5 x G(main) / 30 = 156 kg
iv. Total weight of rail = 220 kg
v. Half of self-weight of flooring: - 436 kg
(b) Concentrated loads
vi. Half of weight of operator’s cabin = 600 kg vii. Wmounting = 1500 kg
SIDE TRUSSES
Weight = 355.3 < 840 Kg, So Safe
Horizontal Truss
