“RAYA AND THE LAST DRAGON”
A girl struggles to save her father and unite a separate land in only one way: Trust.
This movie is a production of Walt Disney Animation Studio which is very popular and
is a big project because it involves 4 countries at once including Indonesia, Philippines,
Thailand, and Vietnam. This makes the movie become the best Disney movie of the year because
of the unique and stunning animated offerings and closely related symbols and cultures typical of
Southeast Asia ranging from Clothing, Place, Culinary to martial arts presented. No wonder it’s
the best Disney movie of the year.
Raya and The Last Dragon is a fantasy, adventure, and musical drama genre film who
tells about the story of a land called “Kumandra” where dragons and humans can live harmonies
and need each other. However, suddenly came an evil creature called Druun that can turn all
humans and dragons into the stones. The seven dragon leaders tried to defeat Druun but it
doesn’t work. Finally each dragon unites their power embodied in the crystal ball and hands the
ball over to the last dragon. Then, the last dragon along with its crystal ball managed to defeat
Druun and restore the human as before. Even so, the dragons remained a stone and the last
dragon had disappeared.
After 500 years ago, Kumandra is not a great land. Because of greedy and human
ambition, Kumandra splits into five small countries was named like part of dragon body.
Ranging from Talon, Heart, Fang, Spine and Tail. The land of the heart is a place where the
crystal ball resides. Benja as the head of the Heart Land and Raya’s father is mandated by his
ancestors to keep the crystal ball because that can save humans from the forces of evil. But there
was a major event that made the crystal ball break and every part was stolen by another Land. As
a result, the evil forces returned and turned some people in the Heart Land into stones including
her father.
This incident gives deep wounds and will never be forgotten for Raya. This is where the
adventure begins, where Raya makes a mission to retrieve every fraction of a crystal ball from
various land and rediscover the last Dragon that can help her to defeat the Druun in order to save
her father and restore the divided land to become Kumandra as it once was. After many years,
Raya finally managed to find the Last Dragon that unexpectedly has an unexpected character and
make this film even more interesting. Raya's encounter with the last Dragon named Sisu was not
the end of this adventure. But it is the first step to start the adventure and become the key to unity
in realizing their mission. So, will they get a crystal ball and be able to unite every country that
hates each other?
This is the best Disney movie I've ever seen because in addition to the story is interesting
and has a great plot twist. This film teaches many things such as the importance of building trust
each other in order to create a better world and the importance of mutual respect which is
embodied by the diversity contained in each character in this film. Not only that, as a viewer we
also know every culture in the Southeast Asian country ranging from Batik, Keris, and Pencak
silat from Indonesia, Tiger Cave Temple from Thailand, Aoi Dai is a typical dress from Vietnam,
Arnis martial arts from Philippine and many others. This movie has very complicated and long
conflicts, but all of that can be balanced with the nature and scenes of various characters. What's
more, there is a dramatic scene when approaching the ending of this film which is certainly very
tense and unexpected. That's why this movie is so recommended to watch.
I think it's an inspiring and communicative movie for the audience because in addition to
entertaining, it also gives a message to respect and appreciate each other to create a better world
and of course it must be based on trust. There is a phrase that is often repeated and has a deep
meaning that is "it may feel impossible, but sometimes you just have to take the first step". The
phrase means that to realize something, of course, must start with the first step by changing the
mindset of yourself first. In addition. There is scene that contains a moral message when a soup
is mixed with special ingredients from each region that will make the taste more interesting.
Likewise with life, if the whole region is united then any threat can be overcome. This is an
important point in this film is importance of trust.
